it's black in there -- wire oxidation?

I pulled some older 12ga wire out of storage recently, copper speaker wire with transparent shielding, and I went about using it to hook up some speakers... and noticed that inside the shielding the wire was... black. It looked dirty and discolored.

Is this oxidation?

Will this affect the sound? Should I ditch this old wire?

Thanks for any advice!

That probably won't hurt the wire at all....but you'll need good clean ends to hook up to your speakers and amp/rcvr.

You could just use some solder, and tin the ends.  The flux in the solder will get rid of the oxidation.
