Help me choose my 1st HDTV! Here are my criteria:

Help a newbie out!  Finally, taking my first dip into HDTV.  It won't be my ultimate dream home theater TV (which will be coming next year after I finish the basement), but rather this one will just be a more modest one for my living room.  I've done plenty of research, but so much of the info out there seems to conflict.  So I'm coming back here to you, the experts and videophiles, to help me out.  LCD/Plasma? Brand? Store?

Here's my criteria:
1080p full HD
40-46"
Good refresh rate
Will be watching lots of movies, including both DVD and Blu-Ray
Have digital cable with some HD programming available
Probably getting PS3 for Blu and gaming
Room is moderately lit in daytime - not dark but not blindingly bright
Budget: under $1000 would be nice, but can go slightly over if necessary

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, not only on brands/models/best deals on the tv, but also advice on hdmi cables, mounts, and anything else I need to consider.
Thanks in advance!!

Get the best Panasonic plasma model you can afford, but don't put it on the wall.  Avoid LCD, they have too many weaknesses for a primary display.

Sony 40v5100 or 46v5100 and a PS3 slim.  Easy call for me.

hi
if you have controlled lighting....get a plasma.
If lots of ambient light...get an LCD.

You should be able to find the 42" Panasonic G15 within $20 of your budget.  The G15 (and the previous G10) are very solid sets by most all accounts.
