I have a Denon receiver(avr 1709) with polk audio surround sound, a Samsung 50" plasma(PN50B850Y1FXZA), a dish network standard definition box(dish 322), and a playstation 3. I also bought 2 Monster HDMI cables. I would like to know how to hook these compontents up to receive thier maximum benefit. Please specifly with each connection which place I should plug(and with which wire) into one each component.

1. Return the hideously overpriced monster HDMI cables. Get cables from monoprice.com or other online for 1/10 the price or less, works 100% as well. Buy at least 3 HDMI cables (a couple for future use), and additional cables as required below:
2a. If you are still in the return period of the Denon, return it for a newer model (xx10 or x90), or different brand of receiver (Onkyo x07, Yamaha x65, Pioneer x19), that supports audio over the HDMI connection. With a newer receiver, you connect HDMI from the PS3 to the receiver's DVD or BD HDMI in. Plus you connect from the receiver's "monitor out" to any HDMI in on the TV.
2b. If the Denon is not returnable, then instead connect the HDMI cables straight to the TV from the PS3. Connect optical from the PS3 to an optical in on the 1709.
3. Std satellite. Hook the S-video into the TV. Hook the red/white RCA jacks into any input on the Denon, probably something labeled TV/SAT or similar.
4. Replace std definition satellite box with HD DVR ASAP. With a new receiver, you'd plug HDMI from this into the receiver. With the 1709, you'd do it the same as the PS3, just to different inputs. (You could also alternately use the 1709 to switch HDMI, plug both into the 1709 with monitor out to the TV, but without the audio processing capabilties it doesn't matter a whole lot).

Right, the 1709 does not support audio over HDMI - that is a feature of the newer receivers Stephen recommended. - The Playstation has toslink (optical) audio that you can run to the receiver in the meantime.Good Luck
