Help diagnose Sub problem.

I own a Velodyne CT-150 sub and after a long time of working away from home I returned to find it not working during a movie.

My receiver is a Marantz SR-6400 and the sub is run out from a single cable from the dedicated SW line, into the wall (pre-wired), and is connected to the sub through a short single cable at the rear of the room to the connecting plate on the wall.

I removed the wires from my front right speaker and inserted it into the subs right in and it receives the signal and produces sound.

Rear of Sub

Unless I'm mistaken that leaves only 3 possible problems:

1. The dedicated sub out line on my receiver is dead
2. The prewired cable in the wall is dead
3. The short cable running from the wall to my sub is dead
4. The input on the rear of the sub is dead

Is there a way to test #'s 1-4 without purchasing a new cable?

FYI: I've checked the settings on my menu for the receiver and the sub is actually set to on, so it should be sending a signal.

Any RCA cable will work.

It's funny that you mentioned the RCA cable idea...... I tried that last night.  I hooked the red to the sub out on the receiver and the opposite red to the in on the sub.... no signal.

This leaves the following possible problems still unidentified:

1. The dedicated sub out line on my receiver is dead
2. The input on the rear of the sub is dead

or

3. The receiver isn't set up properly to send out a signal to the sub.

Is there a way to test the dedicated sub line on my receiver, to see if it's sending out a signal?

I have an older Velodyne that is "finicky" when in "auto on" mode.  It will recognize the signal is present (light changes from red to green), but no sound until I turn the sub off and on.

Do you have yours setup for auto on?  If so, does it sense the signal?

Make sure you have the right connection on the receiver.  Some receivers have inputs as well as outputs.  The sub out is usually purple....

In the past I have had the same problem with the "auto on" feature..... same problem you had.   In this case I'm not getting any signal even when setting it to the "on" position all the time.

Here's a pic of the back of my receiver.

I have the sub wire connected to the "SW" in the "6.1CH IN" area below the "RS-232C" port.

There's your problem.  The sub should be in the SW plug in the "Pre Out" area to the left of the "RS-232C" port.

I think I'm going to pack up my equipment and send it back and tell them that I'm too stupid to own it..... lol

Thanks David,  working fine now.
