Onkyo TX-SR607 w/ SBS-01 Speaker System

So, I've pretty much decided on both a Receiver and Speakers for my home theater:

Receiver: Onkyo one from earlier
Speakers: SVS SBS-01 Home Theater Speaker System

But I have a few questions... Is the SBS-01 speaker system compatible with my Onkyo receiver. Also, is it 5.1 or 7.1 because it seems to me it can be both, depending on what you buy. And it includes a sub, right? They are wired aren't they?

Thanks

Just about any speaker is compatible with that receiver, except for some esoteric low Ohm models and the occasional Bose or HTiB models that have proprietary connectors.  The speakers you chose have standard binding posts and are normal range in Ohms, so have no worries.   As far as 5.1 vs. 7.1 is concerned, that Onkyo, like most modern A/V receivers, is configurable to 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 speakers.

For a sub, that SVS package comes with a PB10-NSD sub, with the option to upgrade to the PB12-NSD for $130.  Depending on your room size, the upgrade may be worth it.  Both subs have quite the bang-for-the-buck, but the PB12 will reach a little lower and sound a little louder in larger rooms.  Either way, you'll have a great system that is better than 98% of the stuff you see in stores.

 Thanks a lot!

Is there anything worth upgrading to that is only slightly higher in cost?

I'm pretty sure I'm going to get the PB12-NSD sub over the PB10 like you mentioned..

And there wired, right?

The Onkyo can do 5.1 or 7.1 (I believe) but a lot of people seem to stick with 5.1.  I also am using 5.1 and have never really felt the need to add rear surrounds.  The speakers are probably 5.1, but you can certainly buy two more for 7.1 and SVS offers them in both 5 and 7 channel packages  The receiver and speakers are certainly compatible.  I set up a system for a friend with the Onklyo 606 I think it was (It was a couple years ago) and the SBS speakers.  Works great.

Yes, the speakers use standard speaker wire.  Pick up a spool of 12-14 gauge at Home Depot or order from Bluejeans.com or Monoprice.com online.  The sub will require a standard RCA audio cable in a length sufficient for your placement.  This can also be ordered online from the sites listed above.  Don't spend huge money on cables or wires, there's no real difference between expensive Monster brand and the stuff you can buy at Monoprice or BlueJeans (besides the marketing BS, that is).

Ok, so the cables aren't included.

Does anyone know a good article on speaker placement?
