LG LHB977 and Netflix - cannot connect to Netflix Server

Hi,

I just bought an LG LHB977 Home Theater. I have everything hooked up and everything is working EXCEPT the Netflix. I have been able to stream a movie from Cinemanow, listen to music from Pandora and watch Youtube videos. When I choose Netflix (yes I have a valid account), it gets as far as "connecting to netflix server" and stops. The error message says the Netflix server returned an error. I called Netflix and was told that everything was working and that I should not have any problems. They told me it was an LG problem...they just supplied the content, not how I connect to the site. I called LG and no one there could help me. I am connected through a wireless-N Ethernet Bridge with Dual-Band Ultra RangePlus and the router is a Belkin N. Connecting directly to the router is not an option at this time. The router is located upstairs in a different part of the house. I wouldn't think that was the problem since all the other internet based programs work - even movies from Cinemanow with no problems at all. I also have the highest speed cable connection for internet. What really makes me angry is that having the Netflix streaming video option was THE deciding factor in purchasing this particular model. Any suggestions? I am at my wits end!   I am pretty new to this and still learning.  Any help is very much appreciated! Thank you!

You did put the activation code in your Netflix account? (Netflix/your account/netflix ready devices)

You've tried power cycling all your network modem/routers/bridges I presume?

You say you have a cable internet connection ... any way you can just move the cable modem + router nearby temporarily to use a wired connection for testing, to rule in/out wireless as an issue?  Presumably your TV has a cable connection near it, the cable modem can usually lock on from anywhere in the house.

Thanks for responding.

When I log onto Netflix, it asks for my activation code.  I am supposed to get that code once I connect to the netflix server through the LG but I don't get that far.  The LG never connects to their server.

Are you saying I can move the cable modem and router without hooking the router to a computer to test the LG?

Just remembered ...I am with Time Warner and they only let you connect the internet at one cable outlet and that outlet is upstairs....

Before moving anything, try the following, which helped some people having issue on older LG BD300:
- set a static IP for the LG instead of dynamic.  Set DNS to your ISP's DNS instead of pointing to the router.

Yes, you can move the cable modem & router to the LG's location to test hard wiring.  They retain their configuration in flash memory.  You only need to connect computers to it in order to alter router configuration.

Doesn't matter, they have no way to tell where you have it plugged in.  They just say that because they probably only tested signal strength at that location, other places in the house might be somewhat weaker and can't lock on.  But in most cases it won't make a difference.

What are the brand/model #s of your wireless bridge + wireless router?

ok I know where to go to change the lg to static - what IP address do I use?  and where to I find the ISP DNS?  I'm sorry, I know these are probably dumb questions, but I had read about doing this but didn't know what addresses to use..  Thanks again in advance

Router is Belkin N model # F5D8236-4v1
Wireless bridge is Linksys by Cisco Wireless-N Ethernet Bridge with Dual-Band (Ultra Rangeplus) model WET610N

Yes I can move the modem if I have to and if it doesn't initialize I have to call time warner which will be no big deal

Thanks for all your help.  I ended up moving the modem and router and hardwiring the lg directly.  Moved the bridge to the computer upstairs and now everyone is connecting and netflix is streaming.  LG really shouldn't advertise that you connect wirelessly when it seems the only way to connect is to hardwire it directly to the router.

It may not be entirely LG's fault, there may be something funky the Linksys bridge is doing to interfere.  It could easily be Cisco's fault ...
