HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – With more action and more thrills, TRANSFORMERS: Revenge of the Fallen captivated audiences to earn over $820 million at the box office and become the #1 movie of the year in North America and throughout the world.  The latest spectacular adventure in the wildly popular TRANSFORMERS franchise will make its highly-anticipated DVD and Blu-ray debut on October 20, 2009 in immersive, two-disc Special Editions, as well as on a single disc DVD, from DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures in association with Hasbro; distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment.  The eagerly-awaited home entertainment premiere will be accompanied by one of the division’s biggest marketing campaigns ever, generating awareness and excitement of galactic proportions.

>From director Michael Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg, in association with Hasbro, TRANSFORMERS: Revenge of the Fallen delivers non-stop action and fun in an
all-new adventure that the whole family can enjoy.  Featuring out-of-this-world heroes in the form of the mighty AUTOBOTS and a malevolent and powerful villain known asTHE FALLEN, the film boasts some of the most sensational—and complex—visual effects in film history set against the backdrop of spectacular locations around the world.  In addition to audience favorites OPTIMUS PRIME and BUMBLEBEE, the film’s human stars have returned to help save the world including Shia LaBeouf (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), Megan Fox (How to Lose Friends & Alienate People), Josh Duhamel (“Las Vegas”), Tyrese Gibson (Four Brothers) and John Turturro (The Good Shepherd).

The TRANSFORMERS: Revenge of the Fallen two-disc Blu-ray and DVD feature over three hours of in-depth, immersive special features that let viewers further explore the world of the legendary ROBOTS IN DISGUISE.  Among the engrossing content is a multi-chapter documentary, including interviews with the cast and crew, that chronicles the entire making of the film from development and design to filming in locations around the globe, working with the U.S. military, creating the groundbreaking visual effects and putting it all together to produce the biggest film of the year.  The discs also include an all-access featurette following renowned director Michael Bay through an entire day, a comprehensive exploration of the “confidential files” on a dozen of the TRANSFORMERS characters featured in the film, multi-angle breakdowns of some of the most sensational action sequences and much, much more.

The Blu-ray and two-disc DVD packages also will feature augmented reality technology that will allow owners to interact with a holographic image of OPTIMUS PRIME utilizing their webcams and a special website.  Fans will be asked to piece together the Matrix of Leadership to bring OPTIMUS PRIME back to life, help repair his armor and calibrate his weapons by actually controlling his aim during target practice.

As an added bonus, the Blu-ray will include an exclusive interactive feature that gives viewers the ability to customize their own robot characters and get a glimpse at a rogue robot.  Out of all the available permutations, one will unlock an exclusive interview with Michael Bay about his plans for the next adventure.

Two-Disc Special Edition DVD & Blu-ray:
The TRANSFORMERS: Revenge of the Fallen two-disc Special Edition DVD is presented in widescreen enhanced for 16:9 televisions with Dolby Digital English 5.1 Surround, French 5.1 Surround and Spanish 5.1 Surround with English, French and Spanish subtitles.  The Blu-ray will be presented in 1080p high definition with English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, French 5.1 Dolby Digital and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital with English, English SDH, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese subtitles.  The disc breakdown is as follows:

o    Domestic Destruction – Production: United States - Michael Bay believes in going big:  Big action and big explosions.  Cast and crew are pushed to the limit as they traverse the U.S. from New Mexico to Pennsylvania.
o    Joint Operations – Production: Military - No other filmmaker in the world enjoys the kind of military access and cooperation Michael Bay has. Here we see just how efficient our armed forces are and the awe and respect shown by the cast.

Thank God for "District 9," or my summer movie-viewing experience would have been left with the bitter aftertaste of enduring this mindless, numbing marathon of boring CGI carnage. And, no, Megan Fox was not worth it. My 12 year-old owes me 2 1/2 hours of my life back.

It was that damn bad.  I blame Paramount more than Bay for the film.  Bay needed another 8 months to polish this thing.  Paramount had no business announcing the release date of the this sequel with the writer's strike looming.

My son is now a "District 9" fan and is trying to recreate the map on his Xbox Halo game.

Here's the part I love: "District 9" cost: $30 million.  "Transformers: Fallen.." cost: $200 million

Maybe this will teach the studios to wait for the script.

(Right, like that's ever going to happen. And the WGA strike against them didn't get us anything substantial)

Why would they care? Minus the cost to make and ignoring all marketing/print costs District 9 brought in a net of $154m worldwide. Transformers 2 made a net of $632m. It isn't like they have their sights on awards, outside of technical.

I'm surprised there isn't any talk about how Walmart has the only Imax theatrical version of the film for sale. Sure seems like a big deal to me, and a scary direction we are heading. If you want the theatrical (I watched it in Imax so that is the only theatrical version to me) version you are limited to a single store? Having exclusive disc art, or a random bonus disc, or figurine is fine. Making different cuts of the film available to only retailer should get a rise out of a site like this.

And other than the wonderful Weekly Round-up (here at HTF) and Lynx's post, I have not seen or heard a thing about it. I think I'll go over to Wally World on the way to work and pick it up since it's only $20!

I'm surprised too.  I actually am glad there are two versions.. I haven't decided which I will get yet.  When the Dark Knight was announced there were a lot of members who liked the thought of "full screen" IMAX footage and those who thought it might be distracting and preferred the whole thing to stay letter boxed.  I guess you could say that there are two different theatrical editions, its just a matter of which you prefer.  I think the different retailer exclusive editions is getting out of hand.  Two different retail exclusives on the WoZ?

I stopped by Walmart first thing this morning and picked up the "big screen edition" for $20. PQ is probably the best BD I have seen yet. The forest scene opens up from 2.35:1 ratio and looks spectacular. But I have to say that AQ is a bit of a disappointment. I guess I had really high expectations. Dialogue level is recorded way too low. And some of the action pieces sound great but just seem to lack something. Can't put my finger on it except to say it isn't as immersive as I thought it would be.

Ok, I have just found that cranking up the volume on my AVR by 3 or 4 db does the trick. Now this sounds like it should. I guess it was just not recorded as hot as the first Transformers.
Also, the ending battle sequence in the desert is demo stuff. Outstanding!

I believe the Walmart version is actually a minute or so longer.  I haven't seen the movie yet so I have no idea what it consists of.

I am watching the Walmart version right now. I thought the big screen version would be for the entire movie.  Instead, it is just like Batman.  Only some scenes are big, the rest are regular.  Other than that, it looks and sounds great!
I just finished it and southpaw is right.  The ending is reference quality.  Especially when they switch to the imax version.  The video fills my 120 inch screen and it is amazing!!!!

Question for you Wal-Mart version owners. I've never seen this movie but bought it blind because it was so cheap and I know my son will enjoy it. There are weird noises on mine that sound out of place. It's as if the audio is skipping even though the picture remains clear. Anyone else having this issue?

No audio problems on mine.  I would just exchange it.

Don
Yeah, no skipping audio on mine. Played flawlessly. Exchange.
Shoot, I don't have a Wal-Mart near me so it looks like I'm going to have to go on a road trip this weekend.

For those who bought that version, is it clearly marked on the package as the IMAX version? Or is there only one version that Wal-Mart is selling so I won't accidentally re-purchase what I just bought from Best Buy?

I'll be keeping both as I enjoyed the Dark Knight presentation on BD but would have also bought a constant 2.40 version as well. I support both the director's desire to have the IMAX presentation as well as OAR. Wish studios would just provide both on one disc via seamless branching...
my wal mart only had that  one and it had a sticker on it that said wal mart exclusive big screen edidition or something to that effect. if it says wal mart exclusive you should be good to go

Well, there were only two scenes shot in IMAX, so the rest of the movie would have black bars.
That's what I found out.  I didn't know that at first.  And the way they advertise the movie, it makes it sound like the entire movie was done in imax.  No worries though, I still really enjoyed it.

Only two scenes in IMAX? Anyone know how long they are? If it's only a small fraction of the film I may not pick it up. I was hoping for more of a Dark Knight length of scenes...
the forest fight is all i've watched so far, but it was well worth the imax footage for the opening of the frame and from what i hear the stuff at the end is even better (i did check out devastator mergeing and wow)

It's only two minutes, from what I hear. I don't even think the opened up version is Michael Bay's preferred version. He could've been adamant about including it on the normal Blu-ray, without making it an exclusive for one chain.
But apparently the IMAX stuff was an afterthought anyway.
It's only about 71 seconds.  Most of the forest battle and parts of the Devestator sequence.  Honestly, I think it's worth the purchase just for the forest battle in IMAX.  It's that STUNNING!  The Devestator shots are freaking great as well, but that forest battle is THE demo material on all levels.

As an interesting aside, did you know that Michael Bay slipped in an f word in this film.  Couldn't believe it when I saw it on the subtitles but it's there, plain as day.  And, I think it was always there.  It's just clearer.  Mikaela says it during the dramatic Sam scene.  Just kind of funny that it got into a Transformers film.

But, it is Bay...

Generally, you can say the f-word once in PG-13 movies. I find the robot testicles crazier.

WHAT'S THAT NOW???

In the original TF animated movie (the one with Nimoy and Orson Welles doing voices) they slipped in one or two curse words as well. Maybe this is Bay's homage to that?

Well Cory, you're doing quite a sell job, I'm nearly convinced to spend the $20 just for 71 seconds of demo-quality footage...

Wow, I can't believe they made the film worse than the first one but somehow they were able to. Good thing the disc is of reference quality. None of the video noise I saw on the original Transformers especially in low light situations. As for the audio, now THIS is the reference track that should have been on the original. Fully of energy and engaged surrounds with great panning and great effects.

Neither Boynton Beach Walmart is selling this for $13.  Oh well.
Nah.  My Wal-Mart was right there with the $19.96 shelf tags, too.

Somebody got really lucky.
