equipment advice for setting up basic A/V home system

Thread Starter
I want to set up a sound system that will send audio from my computer and TV to a stereo set of speakers (on either side of the TV) and to wired outdoor speakers.

I currently have a SAMSUNG LCD HD TV with Cable TV and Interent service.  I also have some audio wiring already run through the house to where I want to outdoor speakers to be.

I still need to get a Blu-Ray player, and a Receiver that will be able to play audio from the TV and from the computer, either to the indoor speakers, outdoor speakers, or both, simultaneously.    If possible, I'm looking for something that will take up very little space, but with great sound.

I could go with Bose, but I know I can get something much cheaper that sounds just as good, or possibly better.

Is it possible to use a surround sound system (e.g. 5.1) to get the separated or simultaneous result between the outdoor, and indoor speakers?  Or would I have to go with a multi-zone system?

Yes, I am a Noob. :)

Any advice is welcome,
Danny

If you want the outdoor system to be playing something different from inside, it's best to get a multi-zone 7.1 receiver.  These can be configured to run 5.1 inside, with 2 amp channels dedicated to the outside.  Something like a Pioneer 919, Denon 790, Onkyo 607.
