Suggestions for Good Display Device/Components to eliminate Color Banding

Hey all. My HT is made up of a PS3 sending a 720p signal via component video to an Infocus SP4805. I love the picture with one exception: That nagging color banding, no doubt caused by the limitations of a downrezzed signal over component video. I want to eventually upgrade my display device to something that will eliminate color banding altogether. I anticipate that this will be corrected with HDMI, but I want to make well informed choices. What features should I be looking for? Oh, and I don't want to spend more than $1200.00, and would love it if my upgrade could cost around $1000.00. I'm not necessarily tied to a projector, so if there is a flat panel Plasma or LCD that will do the trick please let me know. Thanx in advance for your input.

Have you calibrated the projector?  I use the older but similar X1 projector with DVD and HDTV and X-Box sources over component and banding is not a problem/complaint for me.  

I recommend renting or buying a calibration disc, or using the "TXH Optimode" calibration system on some DVDs to get your settings right.  You'll want to save settings for movies and TV separate from settings for video games.

Calibrating your projector is very important, but I don't think that has anything to do with color banding. What exactly are you seeing when you say "color banding"? Have you tried different component cables?

Thanx for the replies. I've used Digital Video Essentials and Avia to calibrate the projector. The component cable is the PS3 component cable. The color banding has appeared on the Brother Bear DVD as well as the Superman Returns HD-DVD (I was an early adopter). Perhaps it's a software issue?
