I've got the Polk in my upstairs family room, and overall I'm pretty happy with it.  It won't knock your socks off with it's depth, but it sounds solid.  I know everyone says "spend a little more", so I won't break tradition, but HSU has their 10" single tuned subwoofer on sale for $349 + $35 to ship.  It's a lot bigger cabinet, so it's going to be deeper and have more punch to it.

Overall to answer the question you actually asked, I like the Polk, and I've been pretty happy with it.  My in-laws have a Yamaha sub (I think a cheaper model), but it sounds kind of flimsy, and I don't think the cabinet is up to snuff with the Polk.
