Recommend a USB hub (especially from laptop users)

I need a 6+ port, powered, USB 2.0 hub for my MacBook Pro. It needs to be well reviewed and known to connect all devices on connection or  boot up.

Isn't that what USB hubs do, you ask? Apparently not. I bought a 7-port D-Link hub with my MBP in '07; the hub had good price and good reviews. I used it for my keyboard, mouse and external drive. Since then, I found that when I reconnected or rebooted I'd often get two of the three devices connected: keyboard and mouse connect but not drive, or drive and mouse but not keyboard. I thought it was an oddity of OS X and suffered it.

I finally got fed up this year and did some looking: D-Link hub is known for not connecting properly. It's a bad choice for a laptop user.

I had a cheapie unpowered 4-port hub going unused so I connected it and it works much better. With a rare exception of my keyboard not connecting, it works like a hub should.

But it's not powered only 4 port, so I can't connected my iPod or camera. So I juggle the 2nd USB hub on my And that means I have to juggle the 2nd USB port on my MBP between iPod and camera.

I'd like to consolidate connections to a single, powered hub.

Suggestions?

I have been using this Belkin hub for some time with my MacBook and have had no problems with it:

I have a keyboard, mouse, printer, iPhone, and MagicJack connected to it all the time. I also use thumbdrives and my Harmony One remote through it. Again, with no issues. My hard drives are all firewire so I can't comment in that regard.

I use the same exact hub and it works perfectly.

I'll check it out on NewEgg. Thanks.

I'll double-check: you use the hub for a laptop with occaisional disconnect / reconnections and all devices appear normally?

Dave, for me I use it with my desktop so I can't answer
that question.

I just picked up this a few weeks ago and really like it. I have 6 devices plugged in and haven't had an issue with it. It hasn't been reviewed much but for me it has worked without a hitch. I plug and un-plug my iPod and Digital camera often with no issues.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't gotten to buying a new one yet, so I'll look into this too.

Great news.

I picked up a Belkin 7 port USB 2.0 powered hub for my living room PC and really like it.
