Good Audio Compressor (Volume Stabilizer)?

Thread Starter
I was wondering if anyone knows where I might find a good audio compressor. Having recently made the move to blu-ray, it seems that many discs only have a DTS audio option, which isn't compatible with the dynamic range controls of either the PS3 or my Panasonic receiver.

I have a fairly basic two-channel audio set up and mostly watch films at night, so I don't want to wake up my wife or draw the ire of the neighbours.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Some new receivers have a feature called "Audyssey Dynamic volume".

But in your situation I think I would rather just get a nice comfortable pair of headphones.

Headphones would work.  Or, since you are just running 2 channels you might find a used dbx 1, 2 or 3 bx (ds is the later version.  Just to explain further one of the model numbers would be a dbx 1bx. dbx is the brand.  It can connect between the player and receiver, or in a tape loop if your receiver has one.
