10 Hz subwooofer

I want to buy a powered subwoofer for my home theater. i would like it to be able to reach 10 hz. is there any subs out there that can do this? i would like it to be at a reasonable price.

First, there is very little content below 20hz so some will say that you are wasting your time.  Second, you better have a different definition of 'reasonable' because it won't be cheap.

If you want to buy retail, you should be looking at subs like the Epik Conquest.  Tom Nousaine measured its output to be 103db at 12.5hz in a large room.  If you have a small room then expect more gain down low.  http://www.epiksubwoofers.com/C2.pdf

Other large subs would be the SVS Ultra since you can adjust the tuning and the dual 18" monster from Elemental Designs.

You can also DIY it.  A couple of 18's or 21's in very large, very low tuned enclosures would reach your goals.  Quad 18's or 21's in an IB would easily reach 10hz in all but the largest rooms.

I guess 10 hz is too much to ask for, but what bout 15???(not in the thousands of $$?)

First, let's start with a budget.  Then how much space are you willing to sacrifice for sub?  From there we can see what realistic expectations are.

I have usable output at 15hz from a pair of sealed 15's and an EP-2500 amp.  I am boosting the low end with a parametric EQ to get that.  I listen about 20db below reference.

Well, another poster pointed you in the right direction with the Epik Conquest. The bad news is they don't make the Conquest anymore. It's a shame cause it's a terrific sub, if a bit on the large side.

Epik still makes some other great subs, but not with the extension the Conquest had.

Consider Elemental Designs, they also have some subs that'll go low.

A 10" driver with a 10" PR and 300w behind it.  It will hit 18hz.  I have some 8" subs that will hit 18hz also.  Will either pressurize the room so that you can get a tactile sensation?  No.  Big bass is all about moving air.  You need a large driver and a large enclosure to do that.

I had no idea that the Conquest had been discontinued.  If the budget is there, I'd still look at Epik.  Chad (a member here) and his driver designer (Scott from Fi Car Audio) are great. 

Only slightly behind them is eD.  Their 15" sub with the underhung driver is awsome looking.  eD will also work with you on custom jobs.  If you want a larger, lower tuned sub they can do that for you.  It will only add a little bit of time to the order time.  They build most of their subs on a custom basis.

I don't want a custom job or a DIY.i have a small room, so i can't have a huge enclosure. i do not have a ton of money. (sub should be under 600$) any suggestions??

I'd go with the more expensive model.  That extra $150 gets you a larger enclosure, more powerful amp and I think a better driver.

The eD subs are great if you want a no-frills sub.  Most of the time we watch movies in the dark so a plain, black sub blends into the background.

No frills = black.  A coating similar but a little nicer than truck bed liner.  Very good value.

Thor's Hammer from Wilson Audio.  Cabinet made from "X Material".  It's similar to stuff certain kitchen counters are made from.  "Wilson Gloss" paint is probably similar to car paint.  Price is probably in the $20,000 range.

Reference Ivy made right here in Memphis.  The cabinet is covered in black, Italian marble and hand polished.  You can read the rest.  Price is $50,000 each.  $100,000 to listen in stereo.  $350,000 for a 7.1 system.

Are these better than the products from Elemental Designs?  Yes.  That many thousands of dollars better?  No.  Some of that is customer service.  Eggleston will come to your house and set up the speakers.  They won't connect them to an old Kenwood receiver from 1986.  You will be using a $30,000 record player with a $10,000 stylus and a $20,000 pre-amp connected to $15,000 Krell amps.

Some might even consider SVS and their different wood finishes as extravagent.  Some like a little bit of that.  My examples are over the top but there is a market for that.

eD doesn't use the "truck bed liner" finish anymore.   They've switched to a smooth finish (still utilitarian) for some time.

SVS and Hsu.  But eD is the best bang for the buck.

With any of these internet direct companies, you are going to get great service.  With Epik and eD, you can talk to the owner of the company or the sub designer (sometimes the same person).  SVS are a little larger and more established.  They have people who will talk to you.  SVS in my opinion has one of the best transducer engineers in the industry.  I've used some of his hand built drivers before and they were amazing.  All are also enthusiasts just like us.  The founders of SVS met at this forum in the old DIY section and some of their customer service guys are DIY sub builders from this forum.  Chad from Epik is a member.  Ben from eD is a member.
