Scott,

I wouldn't be surprise to see this come out in the next 3-4 months for all retailers and available at a cheaper price similar to Gremlins and The Green Mile.

It's really odd that the ad stated specifically the 2 disc edition, which would be equivalent pricing to the 3 disc Wiz/Oz set.

The Black Friday 12.99 price almost makes me wonder if there was supposed to be a 1 disc version like Walmart's Wizard of Oz version and somehow Target got the sets mixed up.   I guess I'm looking for more confirmation on the Target set in more than one region.

$45 at Amazon for the whole thing vs $38 (after tax) for the one disc at Target makes no sense.  Then to put it out for 70% off in 10 days just doesn't add up.

I doubt I'll be able to get to Target until late afternoon on Black Friday, but thanks for the info Steve.

Robert, I would expect that, too, and I can be patient. I waited many months for a less expensive release of Casablanca, and that film is more of a must-own for me than Gone With The Wind. There is always Amazon.uk as an option, too (and I could also finally order Batman Returns from the U.K. at the same time to combine shipping costs).

Anyway, I'll wait until after Black Friday to decide on the U.K. option. It's just surprising that Target would charge such a high price initially for this store exclusive. I'll never understand marketing.

That's the problem with store exclusives. I guess the price would be more reasonable if Warners allowed more than one domestic store to sell the junk-less version.

Here in Phoenix, AZ it's the one-disc release priced at $34.99 + tax. Not worth it at all when, as you correctly state above, the huge box set is $45.50 shipped from Amazon, a mere $7.50 difference. I'd also bet that the chances of actually getting your hands on a Black Friday copy of the singe disc for $12.99 are pretty darned slim. I doubt that they'll stock it heavily and there's the huge inconvenience factor to consider.

It's too bad that Target didn't have an exclusive release on par with their Wizard of Oz three-disc Blu-ray, because I would have snapped it up for $34.99. This whole GWTW "exclusive" is a very puzzling move from a consumer's standpoint. It's not a good value by any stretch.

Hi, First Post...

I got the UK editon at Amazon UK for a toal of $28.17 shipped.  Since the Target one was only the one disc this 2 disc verison with the better cover (IMO) was a steal.  And with the new curency converter where you pay in USD no conversion fees from the cedit card either.  It was such a disappointment with the Target disc, but I'll wait a couple of weeks and get a better deal.

^ Agreed. I got the same deal through Amazon UK and I can definitely wait it out. I'm not a big fan of importing, and I could do without the UK symbols on the cover art, but in this case it was definitely the best option.

Dropped by a 3 or 4 Target's near Charlotte and every GWTW that I can find appears to be the single disc variety.  I passed.   I asked a couple of the clerks what happened to the 2Disc set in the Ad and they didn't know -- from the looks on a couple faces when they looked at the ad and the item I got the impression I was the first one to ask

I really wasn't planning on getting the big box, but that coffee table book is starting to look inviting.   I'm assuming the DVD of "When the Lions Roars" is the same documentary as in the Wizard of Oz set, so I can't decide between the pretty cool box/book and ordering from UK.
I could always wait until the Movie+Extras Only set comes out in a few months, but I think I want it now as usual.

I decided to go with the UK Blu-ray as well. The price is right and the cover art is definitely miles ahead of that on the US single disc release.

Do the extras on the UK version play on U.S. Blu-rays? I've bought a few UK BDs (Life On Mars), and the main features play but not the extras all the time.

Warner puts all the bonus material in NTSC on the disc in every region.

I received the UCE from Amazon yesterday. Very much worth the $45.49 in my opinion. The set is gorgeous and very fitting for a film of this stature. The "box o' junk" crowd may now tell me what a fool I am for liking this sort of thing.

There's nothing wrong with liking the collector's set. It's probably veyr much worth the money. However, when one only wants the discs it's a bit much to ask.

Exactly.  For people who like collecting memorabilia, the set is probably worth the cost. However, for those of us who just want the film on Blu-ray, the cost is way too much for a bunch of items we do not care about. When studios offer both versions at appropriate prices, all consumers are satisfied. In the case of Warner's current GWTW offerings, though, many consumers are being left out.

Got the UK version from Amazon UK shipped to North Mississippi for $27.  All the extras with none of the fluff.  Great deal!

Why does the Amazon site say that the format of the Blu-Ray is Pal??

I thought there is no such thing as Pal, NTSC or Secam when it comes to hi def.

Amazon (and a lot of other sites as well) puts PAL there automatically if it's a region B release. Sometimes the PAL time is mentioned too, which doesn't really help when you want to figure out if a version is the extended or director's version or not.
