Sound Delay

Hi everyone. I have a Samsung surround sound system (not too sure which one it is exactly but i think i might be the HT-TWZ312, or at least very similar) and I'm having problems syncing the sound. The sound is delayed slightly, and is very noticeable when there are quick noises, but not as noticeable when someone is just talking on the screen. On my remote, i hit DVD and the screen comes up. So I changed the settings so the delay is at 0ms, but I didn't notice a difference at all. I hit AUX and then tv/video right after, and a screen comes up for about 1 or 2 seconds that looks like the dvd screen and says "AUDIO IN". This screen quickly goes away.

The way I have my system set up is this:

Digital cable box connected to the TV (also a samsung) with RWY cable.
Optical cable going to the surround sound.
The Red and White audio inputs on the back of the surround sound are connected to my record player (not that this matters).

So, my question is, how do I change the settings for the AUX mode? Or just how do I get my sound synced properly???

Thanks guys

Optical cable from the TV going to the surround sound, or optical from the cable box?  Normally you want the audio going straight from the cable box to the home theater receiver, with optical / digial coax if possible, else red/white analog stereo.

Delay setting, on which device's menu?  It probably has no effect.

red/white from cable to TV, then optical from TV to surround. That's pretty much the only way I could do it because otherwise only my digital cable would have surround sound while xbox and bluray player would only be connected to my surround with red/white, so what's the point of having surround if I don't get true surround from my bluray player? (Everything runs to my tv, then the optical goes to surround so I only have to change inputs on my TV, not my surround).

You really don't want to do it this way, because 99% chance you are losing the 5.1 discrete surround (only getting matrixed surround folded down to 2.0) from the Blu-ray.  You sure you are getting 5.1 from the Blu-ray?  I would guess most certainly not, test if you can turn on/off Prologic II mode.  If you can, you are not.

Try hooking the Blu-ray directly to the surround sound using optical, with the BD optical settings set to "bitstream", see if you can tell the difference.

Also try the cable box directly to the surround sound, see if the delay goes away.

The best way to wire is to get an optical switcher, connect Blu-ray + xbox + cable box to the switcher, then output into the surround sound.  Cheap manual switch, or more expensive remote controlled switch.  Does the cable box have optical?  If not wire in to the red/white aux in.  (But then you probably don't have an HD cable box, get one post-haste, preferrably a DVR model, don't you want to watch in HD on your HDTV?)  Get a universal remote (Logitech Harmony) to simplify operation.

This lack of inputs is why we usually strongly recommend against HTiB in the first place.
