My Phillips TV interferes with my Onkyo Remote?

This seems really weird, to me at least.  If my TV is turned off, or I cover the remote sensor with my hand, then the ONKYO (TX SR505) RC-681M remote changes the volume on the receiver as it should.  If the TV is on, the TV power light flashes and the receiver does nothing.  The only connection from the receiver to the TV is the component video; I cannot use the HDMI as I need both component and composite signals from my Verizon HD DVR and using the HDMI signal turns off the composite output although I don't think that has anything to do with this issue ... this also seems to come and go - I cannot put my finger on the cause or cure ... today it is back.  Any help would be much appreciated.

LCD TVs are known to sometimes cause IR interference particularly when warming up.  Does it go away after the TV has been on for awhile?

You might have to maybe reposition/reangle the receiver to try to get it not to get interference, the last resort may be to go to some sort of RF->IR remote extension and position an emitter right over the sensor, and block off the sensor from the outside using electrical tape or something.

Thanks for the reply - I can sit directly in front of the receiver below the level of the TV so it doesn't see the remote and it still doesn't work ... cover the TV's 'IR eye' and it works ... maybe it is a TV setting?  And, at the moment, it is working again ... go figure.

Philips 47PFL7403D/F7 - 47" 120Hz LCD hung on the wall above a wood cabinet with glass doors containing the Onkyo receiver, DVD player, FIOS TV HD-DVR, Wii and CD player.  The DVD, TV and Wii which are all remote controlled (with different remotes as I'm too lazy 1) to program and 2) to teach my wife to use a universal one) seem to be unaffected.

There's this menu item called "active control", that activates an ambient light sensor to adjust the TV contrast based on room lighting conditions.  Try turning it off.  It has reportedly caused IR interference in some cases, though I don't know the explanation why.

It was on and I have turned it off; the initial results seem good; I'll keep an eye on it and report back.  Thank you for your help on this..

I have the same problem with my Philips 5603D and Onkyo 705. The TV also interferes with the decoder (Grundig).
Active control is set off, but this does not seem to help at all. The problem does seem to fade away after the TV has been turned on for about one hour(?) or so.

Is there any other suggestions than the "active control" or moving the receiver?
