I'm looking into getting a 5.1 speaker set for my condo. I do not want "virtual" surround sound, but need something that will keep the neighbours happy. Mostly worried about the sub being a nuisance. Had the Mirage MX 5.1 in mind, anyone have any experience with them? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Looking for something for around $1000. Thanks!

here are a few considerations:
1- compare this kef system to the mirage. both are good companies. they will sound different. my main reason for thinking the kef might be better is where sat/sub crossover is happening. the mirage sats don't get down to 100hz which means the sub will be a little more noticeable location-wise or you will be missing a bit of sound if the crossover is set lower. the kef sats get down to 70hz or lower removing this issue. also the kef sub gets down about a good 10hz lower. this is all based on specs, you may prefer the sound of the mirage system.
2- consider going subless - you can have great sound without a sub, and with the same budget you can get superior speakers to these little sats. there are many great speakers out there in this price range. personally i'd love to go for 5.0 with psb image series on special at sat audio B25 fronts for $300, B15 rears $250 and $250 for a matching center. This would be an outstanding combo. while you loose the very bottom end without the sub, you will be a little less likely to upset the neighbors. ultimately a good sub properly setup will make any system sound better.
3- get a sub with a night mode or just turn it down or off when the neighbors are in...

Consider Energy or Definitive Technology ProMonitor/ ProCinema Series. Here's a link to the 600 series for a decent price.http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Definitive-Technology-Pro-600-Cinema-Speaker-System_W0QQitemZ270438347839QQcmdZViewItemQQptZSpeakers_Subwoofers?hash=item3ef761b43f&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
