ABC's new Defying Gravity - Page 2

Has it been explained that they have some type of magnetic boots which allows unfettered walking. If not, how is it that they walk around the ship normally but when the crew member hurled the contents traveled outward straight across the room, rather than a distinctly downward arc.

Yes, they made some reference to special fibers in their uniforms.

I'm halfway through the 4th episode and I don't know if I like or dislike this show.

They explained why the hair lays down with the hairspray that has the magnetic bits.

One thing did strike me. This show seems to be channeling the film Solaris. I never saw the original Russian one, except bits and pieces of it on PBS once. I did see the Clooney version. So perhaps there's some inspiration from that story. What do you guys think? If you're still watching.

I really, really hate the grade school monologues (or more like pre-school) to explain technology. I was hoping that Paula Puke would end up in a permanent coma. I will have to time her bits and see if I can program a corresponding skip into my media player.

Echos of Solaris - interesting thought.  I definitely see parallels.

We got enough about the gravity situation last night.

This show fell into the oblivion of "completely unwatchable" after H2IK, which I get is something like: Hell (2?) if I know  but, the show itself was so damn boring it should have been: H2IC, Hell if I Care

I have no idea where this is going, and I don't know if the writers ever did.
I think you're overthinking it.  My wife and I enjoyed the episode a lot.  It's a great show.

I'd think that you not knowing where it is going would be a good thing.  You don't want everything to be predictable, do you?  As far as the writers knowing, everything appears to be relatively consistent to me so far.  I'm enjoying it and will continue watching it.

So So. So far

While it makes dramatic sense to see him get rid of the baseball, it was completely irresponsible to just throw it into space.  You just shouldn't leave projectiles in space like that.  The time capsule was bad enough (which was retrieved anyway and I am assuming that there was a transponder or something on that) ...  Oh, well.

I wondered if he literally threw the ball out the airlock, or if it was in his mind. The other thought that crossed my mind was if he did throw the ball out, that it seemed to keep finding it's way back to him. So perhaps this alien entity, and that is something I am not totally clear on, Beta, would bring it back.

Every week, I keep getting phone calls during this show and I miss stuff! So the Beta thing doesn't seem to be explained, only referred to. I have rewatched the first hour of the pilot and I'll watch part 2 to see if it's explained more. Perhaps it's desgined that way and Beta will be better explained later and I didn't miss anything.

This week's episode seemed to be the most Gray's Anatomy like. Digging more into these guy's personal issues. It seemed more light.
I've been watching for a few weeks now and I don't know how much longer I will stay with it. There is just too much soap opera and not enough space. There are some elements that I've enjoyed and keep me watching. This whole Beta mystery is interesting and I would like to see them explore Venus. They moved this to Fri night at 10pm and that doesn't bode very well. I hate to become invested in a series and then have it cancelled. I remember Firefly quite well.
There are only three episodes left (and there was never any real chance of more episodes being ordered, from the very start), so you might as well stick it out.  There's like NOTHING else on over the next three weeks.

On abc.com it is still listed as next appearing on Sunday August 30 at 10 PM.  I hope something gets answered before the summer run finishes.

We learned some more - this time about the doctor.  When the commander was telling them that they needed to tell him everything I was thinking that the longer he goes without telling them about Beta, the worse he is going to look. The other episode when he was questioning holding back that information, he should have asked just why.  Did Beta not want them to know or was is just Goss?

An episode aired tonight at 10 PM on CTV. I missed the first part of the episode so I'll be watching it again on Sunday night. My least favourite and I don't want to spoil it for anyone so I'll wait till after Sunday to discuss.

what's the with this show it originally planned for Fox and they passed?
The way I remember it, no one expressed any interest in this show from the start, until after it was already completed, and then ABC said that they'd take it.

I thought it was interesting how Beta was seriously manipulating them.  I still think they need to know what is going on.  It seems foolhardy to keep it a secret.  I was surprised that the Donner's dream was continuing after all this time.

Last night was the season finale and probably all we'll see on network TV.  We still don't know how Wass was picked for the mission, but we did learn a little more about Beta.  It ended on a fitting scene.

Yeah, I think you're right. Sci-fi is my favourite genre but I really hate to become invested in it because ultimately it ends up on the chopping block especially when broadcasted on network TV.  I was kind of hoping to see who or what Beta was but I guess it shall remain a mystery.

That's it? And I mean that's it on ABC TV?

I'm glad the Commander finally decided to disobey and show the crew Pod 4. It was a fitting end to the episode. I bet they all see whatever their demons are.

If this is the last show that ABC will air, that's too bad. I had a look at the Wiki and it lists 3 more episodes. Two will air on Canadian TV. The third is TBA. I hope it's either aird here in the US or we can at least watch it from iTunes.

What's interesting is how this show basically copied Lost and Gray's Anatomy. Every show uses the flashback to help flesh out and tell how it's related to the current story. The Gray's Anatomy aspect seems to have been deminished.

By my count, there are five episodes ordered that were not broadcast on ABC.
Status update on last five ep's: scifi.about.com/b/2009/09/16/defying-gravity-statu.htm

I really hope they get aired.
Me too because I really like this show.

It's still airing on CTV.  Episode 9 aired last night.

And low and behold, the show actually (finally) reveals all about the mission, the project, the purpose, the aliens.. in the episode immediately following it going off the air on ABC.. great timing, ABC :)

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
The alien object was found before the first mars mission, and it is an object they found in South America.  Radio Astronomers found a signal going back and forth between Mars & this object on a set frequency.  The entire point of the first mars mission was to retrieve "alpha" the object that "beta" was communicating with.  As time has went on,they've discovered that Beta/Alpha are talking to 7 other objects all throughout the universe.  Through some level of communication, they believe it is imperitive that they pick up and unify all seven objects - which appear to be living - in one place.  Pod4 is a giant collection bay of 7 pods, designed to host the 7 objects.  One on Venus, one on Mars, Earth, 2 on Saturns Moons, one on a moon of Jupiter, and one on the surface of Pluto (how they'd pull that off would be intresting).  What happens when they unify the objects?  Not a single person knows, but everyone who runs into the objects feels compelled to bring them together.  And everyone hallucinates.. except for the female scientist.  Everyone else sees the object as something beautiful.  She sees it as nothing, just an empty box, and is somewhat.. bedaffled why anyone listens to it.

I thought it was the best episode yet. Finally, we get some kind of answer. It looks like CTV has another show airing next Friday at 10 pm. I noticed the Space channel is showing it so hopefully we'll get to see the last few episodes.

You Canadians have all the luck!

I read a report on the web that ABC responded to all the buzz that DG was cancelled by saying that they plan to show the remaining 5 episodes. Just not saying when. The report I read also says we can watch the remaining episodes on Hulu.

ABC sure has been making a lot of goofy decisions. I realize it's simply business and if one property isn't making the grade in terms of ratings, then you replace it. But it seems like all the interesting shows they've aired in the last couple of years, that have a sort of fantasy or sci-fi or quirky nature to them, get killed early.

You mean like Lost?

Or perhaps you're trying to draw a contrast between ABC and other networks, like CBS (Moonlight, Jericho), NBC (Bionic Woman, Journeyman, My Own Worst Enemy, The Listener, Knight Rider, Kings), and Fox (New Amsterdam, Sarah Connor Chronicles)?

Oh no, I would not try to be that bold. I see your point! And I actually didn't watch some of those simply because i don't watch NBC as much due to a change in the local affiliate who used to carry NBC. And I don't watch Fox and I have a limited range of shows I watch on CBS.

There certainly has been a large does of genre TV recently.
