Please Recomend a projector for my art project.

Hi everybody,

I don't know a thing about projectors but I have this art project I am working on that will display my work on the side of a building.

You can see the video examples here.

So I would like to get informed as to:

1) What would be the best projector to use for a project like this.
2) What temperatures should I not use a projector in. (I'm in Canada)

I humbly request that you be detailed in your recommendations so that I can shop with some insight.

Since this is an art venture please don't use price in the criteria. I have no budget set yet as I need more info before i make that decision.

I really appreciate any help.

Your critical parameter is going to be brightness.

You're going to need tons of it.

Christie Digital makes a few high brightness (>10,000 lumens) -- I think they have the brightest at 30k.  Panasonic used to toy around with some high brightness units, but I've not followed their line much.

Actually, a quick glance at ProjectorCentral.com shows 82 >7500 lumen projectors in their database.  I'd start at the 10k level, myself.

Also, when we had someone doing that sort of stuff town last fall, they were also putting the projectors in little tents -- mostly to keep the rain off.

How long would this installation be up?  If it's just a short period of time (less than a month,) I'd go talk to some Rental/Staging people in your area.  Even if its for longer than that, (a) they might have some good ideas, and (b) might sell one of their older units for a lot less than a nice, shiny new one.

And also, consider power.  Consider where you're going to have to put the projector(s).  Consider renting and servicing generators.

Outdoor work is always trickier than indoors, and for the critical eye, the results are almost always worse -- but there's something impressive about the sheer scale of outdoor projects that work in your favor.

If it's done right.  Don't get a projector that's too dim.
