Denon RC-969 Remote Control

We currently own a Denon AVR 3805 receiver with the Denon RC-969 remote control.  The remote is extremely difficult to read during the daytime and we are frequently replacing batteries.  Does Denon make another compatible remote control?  Will a universal remote purchased at an electronics store work?  If so, any recommendations?

Harmony remotes will work. They come in all price ranges, depending on how many components it needs to operate. I saw two models in Target the other day. They were both under $100. I like my Harmony a lot. My next remote will also be a Harmony.

The worst thing about Denon, has always been their remotes. No matter what remote you get, there will be some things that can only be done with the Denon remote (such as accessing the setup menus and changing those settings).

That doesn't sound right.  You should be able to program the Harmony to do absolutely anything the Denon remote can, with the learning feature if the database is missing a command.

Setup menus might be a bit easier with the Denon remote since keys are labeled & instantly accessible while on the Harmony you might have to page through a bunch of commands on the LCD to get to the one you want.

I recommend the Harmony 670 or One, they are a lot cheaper online than at most stores.  Except Target has the 620 model which is more or less the same as 670 but different color.  (610 also works, but beware it has a 5 device limit).

My Denon RC-969 remote has a broken down volume.

 

Can I open it and clean a contact to get the button working?

 

 

 

 

I have to say that this is the worse remote control design in history. The user interface was not designed to interface with the human mind. An engineer in Japan should be waterboarded.
