That doesn't sound right. You should be able to program the Harmony to do absolutely anything the Denon remote can, with the learning feature if the database is missing a command.
Setup menus might be a bit easier with the Denon remote since keys are labeled & instantly accessible while on the Harmony you might have to page through a bunch of commands on the LCD to get to the one you want.
I recommend the Harmony 670 or One, they are a lot cheaper online than at most stores. Except Target has the 620 model which is more or less the same as 670 but different color. (610 also works, but beware it has a 5 device limit).
