Am I Setting Up Correctly?

Hi All,
 

Thanks in advance for this.
 

My system is as follows:

Sony KDL46Z5500 LCD TV
Sony BDPS 550 Blu-ray Disc Player
Sony DAVS880 Amplifier/DVD
 

It'll be a while till I can afford to upgrade my Amp and speakers.
 

I have a HDMI conection from the Blu-Ray to the TV.
SCART to component from the Foxtel box (iQ1) to the TV (planning on getting iQ2 later, so HDMI then).
Optical connection from the Amp/DVD (no HDMI connection) to the TV. I have much better sound though when optical is connected from the Amp/DVD to Blu-ray when watching BR films, but with this swap I have no sound from the TV progs.
 

Is this current connection setup the most efficient/practical/best solution or have I missed something?

Best would be to get a cheap optical switching device, hook your Foxtel box + Blu-ray to the switch, output to the home theater system.

Alternately, just use analog from the Foxtel (w/ SCART -> RCA adapter if necessary), optical from the Blu-ray.

At least until you can upgrade to a proper amp system with more inputs & get better speakers.

So SCART -> RCA to the Amp
Optical Lead - Blu-ray -> Amp

And the HDMI which I have from Blu-ray to TV should link the whole setup up for sound to come from the TV through my speakers?

No, it won't, I was only catering to Blu-ray + Foxtel  You only need audio connection from TV to amp if you are using your TV's internal tuner to get programming not coming through the Foxtel, such as terrestrial over-the-air broadcast with a connected antenna, or a raw cable TV feed.  If so then you can again either use optical with a switch, or analog into your second set of RCAs (which is shared w/ optical, so Blu-ray has to be off in order to hear it).
