SDCC: Next Batman Movie to Start Filming Next Year!

Gary Oldman just announced at the Warner Bros. Book of Eli panel that a third Batman film will go into production next year.

"I think the next Batman is next year," he told a fan who asked about when the long-awaited "Dark Knight" follow-up would hit, "We start shooting next year. You didn't hear that from me."

Is this news as reliable as when Michael Caine said that Johnny Depp was playing The Riddler?
i guess all it takes is for Nolan to say no, then WB can do whatever it wants.

From Aint It Cool:

"I just interviewed Oldman and he back-peddled a bit on it, going from sure to the movie filming next year on the panel to a more 'well, I'm sure they want to do another one... it might 2 or 3 years...' I'll have the exact quote for you in my interview, which I hope to have up tomorrow, but maybe them horses need holdin'. Or maybe he slipped and got an earful from Warners."

the hype is about to start again I suppose
post #6 of 23
maybe someone could set up a vote or something, to see if people would have a problem with a different actor playing Joker...

"the hype is about to start again I suppose"

Nope, just ComicCon forcing actors and directors and writers to say something.

Ohh, I love the "baseless rumors" phase of an unannounced blockbuster!!!

Zac Efron as Robin!

Marlon Wayans as The Riddler!
Let's just hope they change the bat voice, shorten the running time and bring in Robin this time around.

If Nolan took his casting suggestions from teenage boys or the agents/publicists of actors who are not qualified to be in his movies, then this fabrication might have some credence.  But if that was the case, I doubt Ledger would have been cast as the Joker, and the franchise would already been ruined by Schumacher-esque casting by popularity.

Ben Kingsley is... The Vulture!

(actually thats not too bad, though he is getting on a bit)

I say give Bale the boot and get someone with a bit of charisma to play the caped crusader, and make the next one more dark and gothic.

Shia LeDousche as batman and Michael Bay as the director.  McG to produce.

Poorly written article.  No new information.  No sources cited.  Pretty dubious.

I'm not saying it's definitely false, but at this point I don't think there are enough good reasons to believe it.

There are multiple stories out there denying that this is true, saying no casting - indeed, no script! - has been done.

I suspect Nolan would not make the obvious choices in casting, and Fox is pretty obvious.

Here's one of the stories you refer to:  http://www.monstersandcritics.com/people/news/article_1497918.php/Megan-Fox-eludes-Batman

At one point it quotes a Warner rep as saying:

Quote:
It's a rumour. It's not true. There is no script. There is no project to be cast in.

But later it says:

Quote:
Other stars linked to the project include Johnny Depp, who was rumoured to be portraying The Joker, and Philip Seymour Hoffman, who was said to be line to play The Penguin.

A great example of cognitive dissonance.  If there's no script, we don't even know if the Joker or the Penguin will be in the film, in which case it doesn't make sense to say anyone is "in line" to play one of those characters.

I doubt that hack entertainment writers like this one care one bit about the quality of the movies they're writing about.  They're mainly interesting in "juicy" casting.  Depp playing the Joker would be a dream come true for them, since they'd be able to endlessly speculate on how his portrayal would compare to Ledger's.

A lesser director such as Bay or Schumacher might be influenced in their casting decisions by this power of suggestion stuff, which is why I'm thankful Nolan is in control.

I think Nolan might hire someone with a little more acting ability than Megan Fox. She might be the nicest person in the world but talent-wise, she doesn't exactly measure up to actors like Christian Bale, Liam Neeson, Heath Ledger, Maggie Gyllenhall or Michael Caine.
My local paper ran with it like it was a fact.  I'm not even a little bit of a Megan Fox fan, so I hope it is far from true.

That's print media for you.  Running with something throughly debunked before it even hit the newsstands.  It's a good think they'll be out of business soon.

Can't argue with that.  The only change for me is I'll have to buy a book of crosswords.
