Questions on Sony Upconverting DVD players

For those that own a Sony Upconverting player, does the Digital Coax transmit sound when the HDMI connection is used for video directly to the TV?

I'll be running HDMI to my TV and Digital Coax to my Receiver and want to make sure I'll get sound that way before purchasing the DVP-NS710.

Also, if anyone is using HDMI->DVI I'd like to be sure that that works too since my 5 year old RPTV only has DVI.

(I imagine the earlier versions that are very similar work the same as this current unit.)

Thanks!

Yes you'll get sound.  Yes HDMI->DVI will work.  You might want to use 480p output though on the resolution setting, let the TV do the scaling part (or not scale at all, if it is CRT w/ a native 480p scan), rather than using 720p/1080i out.  Depends on the TV type, what it's native resolution/scan rates are.

Why are you getting a new DVD anyway?  Blu-ray can be found under $200 easily, and is huge improvement.  Upconverting DVD is unlikely to be much improvement at all, if you have a DVD player already.
