Herc.
Confirming to you the Superman outfit for "Smallville" is real, there is a mad dash to a bunch of Warner reps happening right now.
But your previous report is slightly off --the suit makes its on-screen debut in the Season Nine premiere, which is called "Superman".
from Richerways

That would explain the absence of a cape!
Original post:
We got a tip about a month ago suggesting The CW appears is planning a “Smallville” TV-movie sequel titled “Metropolis” slated to air Christmas of next year. (Official announcement is expected here at Comic Con Sunday.)

Here’s something that just fell into my emailbox from an untested source:

Hey!
Comic Con is fab - yeh, i'm one of those pms-ing Twilight *****es taking over the floor, New Moon roxx!!!
Warner bros reps are grabbing random people at the show and giving them a sneak peek at the new Superman costume for Smallville Me and friends were grabbed by one girl (details below) and taken to a room (down the stairs next to the giant starbucks) and shown it.
it's gobsmackingly awesome! no spandex it looked like leather, its one suit, the top is blue at front and back, red on sides and arms, the trousers are blue at the front and back, red at sides. the superman symbol on the chest protruding out, its red. no cape. it was on a stand we could walk around.
There were no photos allowed, but the lady (name Rosie, slightly bigger build, brown hair) said we could tell others at show, to build hype. They're showing random people the suit throughout today, tomorrow and Saturday, and sunday Tom Welling is flying in just to wear it when its unveilled at for Smallville presentation on sunday.
wanted to email you this right now, back to the show, but Any more questions reply back!

It seems like a needless way to get around the not making him out and out Superman. While I'll be happy to see Clark finally establish a seperate superhero identity, I would have preferred that it be done in one fell swoop. Glad it's still red and blue though, instead of some black and gray monstrosity.

Not to be sarcastic, but will he don a mask, too? Since he doesn't really wear glasses when he's Clark on the show (yes, I know he has on rare occasions) the paper-thin alter ego disguise that DC has clung to throughout the character's career goes right out the window. It seems to me it won't take long for someone to ID Clark as Supes. Or, am I missing something? Will Clark just continue to be the "red blue blur" and not allow folks to see him in action? Also, does this finally open the door for Clark to fly? Personally, I wish they'd just do that and leave the whole (yet another) costume variation thing alone. I always wondered how the producers would resolve the lack of a Clark disguise in this Smallville universe, if they ever rolled him out as Superman. I guess now we are about to find out...

Well, it's a far cry from the original days of the series when the rules seemed to be, "no flying, no costume."  I thought the show jumped the shark a few years ago when Lana joined the sorority of vampires.  But I keep watching.  It's interesting to see this show evolve into something totally different than when it started but still remain on the air.  So why not a costume.

They made Lex too close to Clark throughout the series.  There's no way he wouldn't recognize him.  It was believable in the old movies and some other versions of the story since Lex knew who Clark Kent was but didn't exactly hang out with him.

I've only glanced at the costume description since I don't want to be spoiled, but it sounds like another Smallville "we're embarrassed by costumes, so we're putting him in some lame 'real world' outfit."  I think the Justice League looks sillier in their hoodies and leather clothes than they would in their iconic costumes.

Tom Welling is making his first appearance at the SDCC this sunday.  Fueling rumors that something is going to be announced.  He was also named a co-executive producer.
