20th Anniversary of Weird Al's UHF

Yes, yes, we've already had a tribute thread to the 20th anniversary of "Batman" but where is the tribute thread to UHF?  That other great summer of 1989 Blockbuster?

Admittedly, UHF never caught box office fire, but UHF still stays as one of those movies that to me is shockingly funny, and some of the laughs have gotten much better as the film gets older.

What's sad is that it's been since 2002 - more then 7 years ago, that MGM put out a double sided disc featuring UHF with features.  I can't find any reference to any plans for an update of this.  While "Batman" in the other thread has Blueray, UHF hasn't been touched since the edition I picked up at Walmart today again for $5. (bin)

Anyway, since we've past the point when the film came out, but I was thinking about it as I saw it in the bin, come on MGM, give it an update!  :)

Apparently it does still get some college screenings now and again.  Poster for this summer:

I remember seeing this movie back in 1989.. it was my all time favorite summer for movies. I remember watching batman, lethal weapon 2, parenthood, the abyss and many more.

I saw this one at the dollar theatre at the time. I liked it.

I saw this I think 3 times back in '89. It's one of my favorite slapstick comedy movies. It was definitely lost in the shadow of Batman and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. I think if they released this at a different time it would've done better in the theater.

It is still shown on TV every now and then as well.

Considering it took forever for them to even release it on DVD in the first place I'm not surprised by the delay. But, I would love to see a nice Blu-Ray edition.

It was some effort to get the 2002 DVD out, if I recall correctly. A Blu-ray is more than several years off, if ever.

I'd pay money to see UHF 2. There's so much more stuff Al could spoof now. :)

Does anyone else think the framing on the DVD is a little too tight? The film was shot open matte, but the other side of the DVD is zoomed in to facilitate the sight gags that appear with the commentary track.
