WHV Press Release: North By Northwest 50th Anniversary Editions (DVD/Blu-ray) - Page 3

I don't think the screenshots look bad at all. But the screenshots for the DVD look good, too. I am definitely getting this Blu-ray, but I always thought the original DVD looked quite good. 

Good news update.  In my opinion, the reality of the video does not match the screenshots, in this particular case. 

Candidly, I would have played 'bombs away' if they decided to 'play god' with the colors or the darkness levels of the film.  Sure, there are a few things that could be mentioned but instead I choose to mention this:

 Well, it doesn't help when regulars post in the Gone With The Wind thread that the Beaver's screencaps look amazing.  First of all, they don't.  Second of all, they don't.  Third of all, as I've posted in one of the other North By Northwest threads (too many, IMO), this transfer really replicates the look of the 35mm IB Tech prints.  A simple A/B comparison with the DVD will show you that that transfer was printed many stops too light - which is why people came on and said the DVD is so good it reveals phony backdrops, bad matte work, and bad process photography.  Print any film transfer many stops too light and that will always be the case.  Then there were niggling reports that the Blu-Ray was darker than the DVD like that's a bad thing.  Well, with the transfer printed correctly, which restores the film's proper contrast, suddenly the back projection looks like it should and fine, suddenly the matte work is magical and right, and suddenly the backdrops don't look phony at all.  Amazing what a proper transfer can accomplish.  

How different are the screen shots from the actual product anyway (I pre-ordered it but haven't received it yet)?

I will vow to wait until I see the video for myself before posting about it.  As for screenshots, nothing is perfect but if there is a better objective measure and viable alternative to sharing video over the Internet forums than a screenshot, please let me know.   

I have just received the 2 SD disc  50th Anniversary of North-By-Northwest the NTSC Region 1. On the 2nd disc are the special featurws. Did  I receive a false disc - the subtitles are only Japanese and Portugese?????!

So did Robert Harris --- I still remember him telling all of us to buy two copies when it was released!  And I've always thought it looked great too.... nothing like the blu-ray, but for SD DVD, it was pretty damned good.
