Speaker Issue

Alright, before I even tell you guys I have a Bose acoustimass set, please save me the lectures, cute sayings, and the advice to sell it and get something else. My wife and I just got married and my father-in-law was generous enough to give us his set. So I will take it, especially since it is for a small apartment.

I set all the speakers up last night and noticed one of the rear cubes was not working, but the other was. So I switched the wires for the two, and the silent one was still silent. So it's not the wiring, unless there's something I don't know about. But the speaker produces no sound what so ever. I was under the impression that a blown speaker typically rattles and gargles. But this was gives me nothing.

If I can avoid replacing this one speaker I would love to because frankly we are poor. Can you guys give me any other ideas on trouble shooting this speaker?

Thanks for your help and lack of Bose suck/all highs no lows must be bose comments.

Hi Colby,

No need to worry.  This is HTF, not AVS

Is this a new set?  If so, I suggest calling BOSE or the store they were purchased and have the speaker replaced.

If not under warranty, you can start troubleshooting yourself.  Since you ruled out an external wire problem, maybe you can check internally to see if anything came loose.  I'm not familiar with your speakers, but there must be a way to get the drivers out of the box without destroying them.  Normally they are held in with a few screws.  Pull the driver out and make sure the wires are connected.

Thanks for not judging. They were used, but still sound great for our needs/budget.

What are the chances if the wire is loose I would have to saulder? them back together? The specific cups are version III of the red line single cubes. They're older since they only have standard stereo inputs on the back.

They may not be soldered... Normally the wires just clip onto the drivers.  If the wire is lose near the back, then it is most likely soldered (since there will be electronics there for the crossover).

I keep saying normally because BOSE does things a bit differently most of the time.
