Recomend a subwoofer for me?

I'm looking for a subwoofer commensurate with the amp and receiver I already have.  It will go in a 15x15 room which is used almost exclusively for viewing movies.

Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated as I'm very new to all of this.

Receiver:
Onkyo TX-SR605

Amp:  Dayton HPSA1000 1000W

Thanks!

Budget?  How much space are you willing to sacrifice?

Since you already have an amp you are looking at a passive sub which is very rare now days.  Are you willing to go the DIY route?

Thank you for responding Robert!

I guess my budget is around 300-400$, but that is definitely flexable.  The main thing I don't want to do is buy a subwoofer that is twice as nice or half as nice as my receiver and amp.  I don't want to put 2000$ wheels on my 1000$ car so to speak.

DIY is definitely an option, though slightly less preferred.

Again, thanks!

Why do you even have the subwoofer amp?  Can you return it?  It's not the sort of thing one usually gets unless building your own sub or assembling a kit for which you can also get the other pieces from parts-express.

Almost all subs come with their own built-in amp these days.  If you can return/sell it, you can get a more expensive sub, though that might be overkill for your room.  Although certainly there are members, probably like Robert, who don't believe there is any such thing as overkill :).

The amp was given to me by a friend who received it by mistake and never really had a use for it.  I have half-heartedly attempted to sell it, but even thought it is still unopened in it's origional box, I was only offerd 200$ for it.  Being offered only about 1/3 of its "list" price, I figured I would see if I could put it to use with an unpowered subwoofer.

The extra headroom means lower distortion.

There is a 3cf enclosure that has cut-outs for your amp as well as a 15" driver at Parts Express.  Add the Titanic 15" and you have a very capable sub.

Build an enclosure like this and save about $100 - http://www.danmarx.org/audioinnovation/tc3000.html The Titanic will still work as well as dozens of other drivers.  But if you can find a TC-3000, get it.
