****ing Counter Ad - Page 8

Those drive me bat#@%@ insane too.  As do ads in the Movie theater when I've paid to see a movie not get additional ads hurled at me.

FWIW, I have had a number of delayed page loads the past few days.

My Firefox (3.5.7 on XP) progress bar will show 90%...but the only thing that loads on the page while I'm waiting is the top blue bar with the HTF logo (where the banner ad sits).

My Firefox status bar says "Transferring data from ad.turn.com."

Wow.  Talk about a strange ad.

Thanks very much, DaveF, for the screenshot. Makes it really easy for me to block the ad...which I've now done.

Here's a new one.  I haven't seen this ad before (or one like it).  But I got it today and it freaked me out.

I am subscribed to the "Quit Smoking" thread in AHL and clicked on the link to see a new post there this afternoon.  When I did , I was taken to the new post and all the sudden, my computer started speaking to me!  As I had several tabs open at the same time for different HTF threads, it took me a while to figure out exactly what was going on.  But when I scrolled to the top of the "Quit Smoking" thread page there was an ad at the top of the right-hand column for Lysol products and how they help prevent the spread of H1N1.

Like I said, this was the first ad with audio I've ever seen on the HTF and it really freaked me out.  It featured a man's voice talking about H1N1.

If anyone wants my opinion, I didn't like it.  It's not a deal breaker, but it was startling and I had no idea from where the audio was originating since the ad was at the top of the page and I was at the bottom of the page.  Here's what the splash page of the ad looks like after it has run its course:

Wow.  I haven't gotten that and I hope I don't.  Ads with sounds will keep me away.

While I can't say that we will never have an audio ad or popup ad again, we have worked very hard behind the scenes to kill them, including rolling out some new ad quality tools that Parker is making good use of.  Things are much better lately.  Thanks for your patience while we got things sorted out.
