will my old marantz sr18 hard to push the b&w 684's?

my dad just gave me his old ATI four channel amp. Will this solve the problem? I heard the b&w speakers are harder to push at the same volume. ( will this increase my basee performance once I hook it up with the amp? )

BASS performance probably won't change, that you will notice.  The B&Ws have moderately low sensitivity (90dB) which is the main factor in how "Loud" they are.  More power can help this a little, but the 4 channel amp, whatever it is, probably won't make that much difference.

I have a Marantz 7300 OSE in the basement driving B&W P6s are mains and a CDM center.  It is a very large space (maybe 650-700 sq ft) so I have an NAD amp strapped in mono for the center channel.  The Marantz can drive them easily but since I have the amp and the center channel draw its share of power I use it,  The amps in the receiver share power supplies so making it work a bit less is OK since I am running 6 channels (the rec'r has 6 channels of amplification).  How many speakers are you driving?

Hello Phil A,

I have 5.1 speakers. I have the ATI 4 channel amp available if necessary. I think my Marantz is strong enough to drive the L/R surround and the center. Because I have been using it with my orb speakers perfectly fine for 2 years. Since I haven't buy the b&w's yet that's the reason I brought up ATI amp just in case.

Don't think it should be a problem, I had an SR-18 powering up a pair of CDM 7 se's and they sounded great together.

Should not be a problem.  My Marantz rec'r in the secondary basement system is 6x110Wa and as noted I do not have it driving the center channel and it is in a very large room.  I had people over yesterday playing Valkyrie on Blu-Ray via the PS3 down in the basement and it has some demanding scenes and it was not as issue playing it at normal listening levels where you can feel the explosions.  I probably could even get by without the amp but I have it and it works fine, sounds good and a little overkill is OK vs. a  little underkill.
