Connectivity Help

Thread Starter
Equipment: 42" LG Plasma TV, Sony DAV DZ-570 Home Theater, Sony BDP-S350 Blu Ray Player.
I have HDMI connection from the TV to the DVD Home Theater, and I want to connect the Blu Ray player with surround sound but the Home Theater only has 1 HDMI port.  Should I connect HDMI from TV to Blu Ray and Optical from Blu Ray to Home Theater to get 5.1 audio or use HDMI splitter or better alternative. Thanks.

HDMI from Blu-ray to TV, optical from Blu-ray to home theater, for this combo of devices.

Better alternative is different home theater system, or receiver-based system, that has HDMI audio/video *inputs* (not just HDMI video output for the built-in DVD), if this home theater system is new & returnable.  There are better choices.
