Help with Home Theater Build.

Thread Starter
We redid our basement and decided to make a Home Theater with movie theater reclining seats and all. Basically I am looking For a reciever/amp/speaker setup. Dont really have to much of a budget but would like to keep it under lets say $3000-4000. I am not looking for a bluray player. The reciever must have Sirius Sat. built in. I am thinking a solid 5.1 setup. I went to the local home theater store to look for some ideas and the Integra 30.1 reciever looked like just what i needed, but i can not find it online for the life of me. I also was looking at the Marantz recievers, but i can not remember which model. For speakers I looking at KEF speakers, but I am really open to suggestions. If anyone has any recommendations that would be really helpful. I dont need top of the line, but i dont want crap either. I would also like to be able to purchase most if not all of the parts online. Thanks

This is the TV we are going with. http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=televisions&type=televisions&subtype=lcdtv&model_cd=LN55B650T1FXZA

Integras aren't sold online.  If you want to buy online, get the equivalent Onkyo (prob 607).  The only thing significantly different is a few missing system integration features (e.g. RS232, Ethernet control) that you probably wouldn't ever be using anyway.

Would it be better to go with maranz then? Or is the onkyo good? I still need an idea on some speakers and an amp as well.

Onkyo's a better buy IMO than Marantz.  A receiver contains an amp, you don't usually need a separate amp unless the room is tremendously huge and you like to listen at hearing damage levels.  Speakers are personal taste, listen & pick ones you like, you have a ton of choices in your budget range. At your budget you can audition brick/mortar speakers.  Internet direct is a possibility and can be a lot cheaper but it's of a pain to audition since you have to buy & ship back, you have to rely mostly on word of mouth. Depends how picky you are. Subwoofer(s) you may want to go internet direct for more bass for the buck, SVS/Hsu/Elemental designs.

Hi Tim,

Pick the package you think will look the best and go for it.  Seriously, I doubt there will be much difference.

For the record, I am a HUGE SVS fan.  I LOVE their subs and like the speakers (the ones I've heard, at least).  With the new design of the sub in this package, I bet it really rocks now (not that I'm trying to persuade you or anything ).
