First Post -- Need a 2.1 or 5.1 set up for a PS3

Evening Everyone,

My name is matt, and I am a college student looking to hook up his PS3 with a nice little system.  I am an ex-headphone geek and still vinyl fanatic who appreciates good sound but can't afford to spend too much.

I was at Best Buy today looking at the htib systems and they all struck me as incredibly cheap.  I did find an awesome deal on an open item, a Harman/Kardon AVR-154 open item for $199.

Currently debating two options:

1)  Buying the Harman/Kardon AVR154 from Best Buy, and the $99 sony Sub they had.  I would pair these with the Athena AS-B1 speakers that I have had for a few years now (and love)
2)  A htib system, probably somewhere in the $250-$300 range at a brick and mortar store..  (metal gear solid in 5.1 is the real draw here)
3)  Some kind of recommendation from you guys for a good 2.1 or 5.1 set up, I do not mind buying online, and can wait a few days for a cheaper, better sounding set up.
4)  Recommendation from you guys, preferably a 2.1 systems, that can make use of the Athena AS-B1 speakers that I currently have.

The problem with me using my Athena speakers is that I currently have no speaker stands, so that would have to be taken into consideration.

I would like to spend about 300 bucks, cables will probably just be purchased at mono-price or blue jeans, so those do not need to be taken into consideration.

Hopefully this is enough information, I would like something that is easy to move, because I am in college and bouncing around various campus housing.  The room is a decent size, however speaker stand area problem.  Also, I cannot wall mount speakers due to campus rules regarding campus housing.

thanks for reading,

Matt

Sony STR-DH700 @ ~$210 online is better than the HK, can handle audio over HDMI, whereas that HK model is video switching only.

If you are still moving around a lot, I don't know that I'd bother with a sub, one more thing to lug around, and in the long run you may want a better/bigger/more expensive sub anyway.  Plus it'll bug neighbors more.

Can't you find crates to put the speakers on, which can maybe double as storage?
