Burbank, Calif., July 6, 2009 – On October 27, Warner Home Video celebrates the 20th anniversary of the perennial holiday favorite with the release of Ultimate Collector’s Editions of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation in a gift-ready package all set for the season. The cool collectibles include a replica of Clark Griswold’s holiday Santa hat, a set of holiday themed drink coasters with memorable quotes from the film, a box of faux snow, and an “I survived a Griswold Family Christmas” button. Exclusive to the Blu-Ray gift set is a collectible Moose figurine.

All will be festively packaged in a collectible gift tin. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation Ultimate Collector’s Edition will be offered in both Blu-ray Hi-Def ($49.99 SRP) and in a DVD version ($39.92 SRP).

About the Film

In National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) attempts to create a picture perfect, old-fashioned Christmas for his family and invites his extended family to celebrate the holidays at his home. But a festive supporting cast including Beverly D’Angelo, Randy Quaid, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Juliette Lewis and Doris Roberts, 25,000 lights on the roof, an exploding turkey on the dining room table and a SWAT team taking siege outside soon help Clark realize that more does not always mean merrier. Critic David Sheehan said the film is “funnier than the first Vacation. Chevy Chase is at his best!” John Hughes wrote and was a producer on National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation; Jeremiah S. Chechik was the director.

Special Features:

Audio commentary with Randy Quaid, Beverly D’Angelo, Johnny Galecki, Miriam Flynn, director Jerimiah Chechnik, and producer Matty Simmons.

YIKES, I sure can't understand Warner Home Video with this sales strategy.  It's hard to believe Blu-ray upgraders really want coasters and a Clark Griswold Christmas hat.

Another that I'll wait for a later, more stripped-down release.

Not again, Warner Brothers!  How many more of these "Box O' Crap" editions without a more basic BD release do we have to endure?

I won't be buying this set, same old not great at all transfer. They did the same thing with A Christmas Story and we got the same old transfer.

I would much rather have a a new HD release for VACATION. I know some shots even on the DVD have some instances of harsh grain but I can deal with that, as long as they don't gloss it over.

A basic Blu-ray release of Christmas Vacation has been available for years.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (Blu-ray) was released on December 5, 2006 and to my knowledge is still available in stores.  It will be the disc to compare for any upgrade in HD quality.

I can't fathom these releases either, but someone must be buying the damn things because WHV keeps shoveling them out!

Thanks, Paul.  I did not realize there was already a Christmas Vacation release a couple of years ago. I only started with BD last year. With Warner's recent release strategy of these bloated packages, I made the assumption this was a first time release.

Nevermind.

Not "Box O' Crap," man, Box O' Fake Snow!

Reading that press release sure gave me a good laugh.

I stand corrected.  Somehow I had never noticed that Christmas Vacation was already out on Blu-ray and I will indeed pick up the previous Blu-ray release.

I still don't know why someone would want a high-priced box of trinkets- but if I have an alternative, I have no complaints.

I'm at a loss for words.

Talk about pissing your money away. I hope you kids see what a silly waste of resources this was.

if only there was an included Wally World Moose Mug.

Might as well throw in a jelly of the month club certificate with it too cause that's the way I feel when they release this kind of re-release blu-rays.

I wholeheartedly agree. I mean why can't Warner Bros. do a release for Vacation instead of just rehashing? They should've made the disc a BD-50, put on a few more extras and bump up the video bitrate.
And they have the gall to call the current release of BEETLEJUICE an Anniversay Edition...

Wow that is really not so great looking... makes you want to run out and buy the already released BD edition so you can have the look of the original poster artwork.

not impressed at all. then again I guess the cover art can match the transfer of the film in HD.

Those pics are of the tins. I suppose they'll have the current blu-ray inside the tin. I think that's what they did with A Christmas Story.
I haven't seen anyone post a picture of what's inside the tin yet, so here it is.  I grabbed that ad from either Home Media Magazine or Video Business on Monday...I forget which.

Who're the idiots releasing this, Beetlejuice So-Called Anniversary and Poltergest onto Blu-ray? They should've gotten fired and hired someone else to actually put special features on the damn discs! No, interviewing psychics doesn't consist of good special feature content for Poltergeist and having two cartoons means nothing for Beetlejuice.
I'd re-release all three titles featuring tons of extras! ESPECIALLY the E! True Hollywood Story for Poltergeist.
Warner Brothers, this is a no sale and call it something other than 20th Anniversary Edition.
Come to think of it, I'd like to bring these points up in the next Warner chat.
I don't mind the boxset for the Dirty Harry series but I'm just going to use individual Blu-ray cases and custom covers for them when I buy it.
And for BATMAN, I don't support Digital Copy so I'm just going to purchase the UK release of which doesn't have Regional encoding. OH NO I'M IMPORTING! Same goes for the Hong Kong release of The Last Samurai since it actually has Dolby TrueHD.

I'd much rather have a brand new release for National Lampoon's Vacation over this.

Am I missing something here? What's wrong with importing region-free discs?

He likes to think that everyone thinks importing means bootlegs.

Oooookay.  Since no one here is saying that, why manufacture a nonexistent problem? It's counterproductive.
