I used to have limited moderation power in the HD software forum to stick and close threads, that seems to be gone in the switch.  Might need that added back if possible for future contests.  But I dont get access to the moderator forum =)

Bump.  Are stickies not even possible?  Is it even possible that stickies are NOT possible on this platform?

I apologize for the delay in getting back to you but we have been so focused
on other things related to the transition.

in the HD Software area.  Take a look and tell me what you think.

Thanks Ron!  Will check that out.  The Mac links were previously stuck and I think that at least 2 of the 3 are tremendously beneficial for new Mac switchers, your call tho...

The topic regarding "stickies" is still a "sticky" point between HTF and Huddler.

Huddler would rather have members post Wikis instead of sticky notes.  We agree
with this philosophy but also realize that there are other types of posts that should
be stuck to the top of the forum instead.

This discussion is still ongoing, however there is just too many more important issues
that we need to be implemented before we further push the "sticky" issue.  Trust me,
the discussion will continue.

In the meantime I have placed all your Macintosh threads at the top of the Apple forum
area.  For the moment this should suffice.  If you have any other ideas please feel free
to let me know what you think.

Ron:  Just as the HTF team would realize that particular threads were of enough import that they should be putd in a prominent place for the general membership, so it was true for individual members.

Parker had created the ability for members to "sticky" any thread they thought was valuable enough to the top of a respective sub-forum.  If used properly, this was an extremely useful tool for members to provide themselves with easy access to particular threads.

I have also been advocating for a return of "Favorite Threads" which used to appear at the bottom of the User Control Panel.  I probably had up to two dozen threads set aside as favorites to which I had fairly instantaneous access and could then search for various information or could direct other members to in a moment's notice.  I would like to see a "Favorite Threads" function return to our personalized homepage (along with the ability to personally sticky threads in a sub-forum).

Believe me, I hear you.

Please be sure that you express this opinion in the "Features we want" thread as well.

Right now Huddler has a long list of things that we need implemented into this software.

They are working hard to do just that.  We will continue pushing the fact that we need
specific member requested features implemented.

Hey Guys - I see that Ron posted some of the "sticky" links in the forum admin notes, but for others, in case some semantic clarification is helpful, I think I called the forum admin notes "wiki stickies" once as that's what we sometimes call them internally, but I should draw the distinction between admin notes and wikis. Below is the forum admin note that was placed on the Forum Help and Feedback forum here http://www.hometheaterforum.com/forum/list/11 :

I should refer to them exclusively as "Admin Notes" or whatever you'd like to avoid confusion in the future.

The purpose of the admin notes is to envelop and extend "sticky thread" functionality. With admin notes, you can add textual context, images, links to a specific post within a thread, other links that aren't just threads (reviews, wikis, etc.), make announcements, e.g. http://www.hometheaterforum.com/forum/list/119
Or you can just stick threads that you want to call out: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/forum/list/23

I think one thing that I did say at one point is that many formerly sticky threads do in fact make for great wikis because often with "sticky threads" there is how to content in them and often with how-to content one user has to consistently go back and add others feedback and suggestions, whereas with a wiki, users can collaborate and discuss together.

Mike-
I suspect that Huddler wasn't told about every feature Parker created including this one.  While it was nice having the ability to individually stick threads in each individual forum, I find that I really don't miss it as I am using the the Home page for that.  Granted, as I move to the individual forums I no longer see my favorites stuck at the top, but I find it even more useful to be able to see all the threads that are important from every forum in one place "stuck" to my home page.

We can't "sticky" threads on our home page...although I am advocating something similar with the return of the 'Favorite Threads" section there.  In fact, there is nothing "sticky" anywhere on the new HTF. 

When you say you see the threads important to you "stuck" to your home page...that's only when there's a new post made in a thread to which you are subscribed.  There are certain threads I liked to have quick access to (new posts or not) so that I could refer another HTF member to them (such as the HTF Primer) or search out info within that thread. 

Personally, I think the Favorite Threads section would be more useful than the ability for members to sticky their own threads.  So I hope this user-friendly device can be returned.

Sure you can. All you have to do is subscribe to the thread, and it will appear on your home page. If it isn't there in the initial list, click "Show More Forum Threads". And if there are too many threads, then edit down the number of subscriptions (which is what I've had to do).

Many, if not most, of the threads on my home page have no new posts, but they still appear there. If you're subscribed, they're listed.

If the list is long, I've always found it preferable to keep it separate from HTF altogether, but that's a matter of personal taste. I'm finding the home page to be a lot more useful than it initially appeared, once I put in the time to get it in shape.

I subscribe to all threads to which I post.  I request no e-mail notifications when other members post in those threads, but like to be notified on the home page so I can easily be caught up-to-date on the discussion. 

I'd rather not unsubscribe to threads just to pare down what's listed on the "Stuff You Care About" list.  I'd rather see a return of the Favorite Threads" section which could reside alongside of it and accomplish two different things.

This is easy for me to say, since I know nothing about the programming, but I suppose the logical approach, from a design perspective, would be to add another tab on the home page for "favorite threads", with the current one becoming "subscribed threads".

I have no idea whether or not this is doable, but it would certainly address the issue.

(I've stopped auto-subscribing to threads. The way I read the forum, subscribing was never a useful function for me.)

And, this was one of those weird instances where I went to quote your post and the quote box showed up--but was blank inside.  I had to copy & paste the part of the quote I wanted into the empty box.  I run into that every so often under the new software.

If that's the case then why not just use advance search and search on your own user name.  Assuming that still works =p

Color me dumb, Sam...but how would searching on my own user name help me in this instance?

What would I do then?

One of the things that has come out of this switchover for me is an appreciation of how differently everyone uses/navigates the forum.  The same way everyone uses their PC/software differently.

Like I said, I don't know anything about the programming. But I've spent a lot of time reorienting myself toward this new design, because this is HTF now, and we aren't going back. It just struck me that, given the overalll approach to layout, a separate tab would be consistent.

On a "degree of difficulty" scale, you should count yourself lucky you don't have to do forum maintenance. Over the years, Parker had written all sorts of customized tweaks to vBulletin that made it easy for us to do routine stuff with a couple of clicks. All of that's gone now. Just dealing with spammers takes a lot of extra work. But it's worth it, especially as I see what the reviewers are doing to integrate their work into the "HT Gear and Movies" database. That thing's gonna be awesome!

Well, it doesn't work here because our Advanced Search really isn't so advanced.  On VB based systems (heh!) all you have to do is go to advanced search and chose author name and put in your own name and it lists the threads you have made any comment in at all, in order from the one which has had the most recent activity by any poster on back.  No subscriptions necessary.
