I have checked the FAQ and still can't find a way of changing ones user name.

Oswald,
I'm new to this as well.
Did you go to EDIT PROFILE on the HOME page?
If you still can't figure it out and the Huddler team still does not respond
here, send me an email with your email address, current username and the
one you wish to change it to...okay?

Hi Oswald,
At this time, after you register on Home Theater Forum, you cannot change your user name. You can however change your "real name" which displays below your user name. To do this, simply navigate to your profile by clicking the My Profile tab. Click "Edit Community Profile." The final field here is for real name. When you are satisfied with your changes, click "Save."
Apologies it wasn't called out more clearly in the FAQ. I added in a new question in the FAQ specifically regarding user name changes (it also remains mentioned in the question above regarding email and password changes).

Sorry to resurrect the thread, but the linked FAQ says only that usernames can't be changed, full stop. As a user with a full name as a username, this now has potential for problems that were less of a concern when I first signed up 7 years ago. For instance, many more companies do searches for the names of potential employees, as well as former acquaintances you may not want to know what you are up to.
I'd still be willing to use my first name, but if I want to request a username change, what's the current process? A quick search led me to believe e-mailing Ron was one way to change it, but his post in this thread makes me unsure. Also, if I do change my username, will it change it in past posts and replies to those?

At time time, there is no technical way to change a username once it has been created. The reason is because it has very complicated implications for the database and all instances where your name is currently displaying. For example, in the quotation below, we hard insert your name for quote attribution. If we changed your username, that instance would not be able to change, leaving a trail of disconnected occurrences of your old username. Additionally, it brings up issues if anyone has linked to your existing profile. Any URLS to your current name would not redirect to your new username.
