Got Samsung BD-P160 Blu-Ray - Defective??

OK OK so I cashed in my reward points to get a Samsung  BD-P1600 Blu-Ray DVD Player, and it seems to have problems... about 1/3 of the way through discs it seems to start stalling and skipping on the video.. very disconcerting... in fact, one movie in particular ("The Day The Earth Stood Still") won't play normally at all after it starts failing... I'm wishing now that I'd gotten the Sony 360 instead... What do you guys recommend?  I'm not sure I have an option given that it was obtained on Marriott Reward points??  .... Thanks for any advice...

Have you checked their site, to see if there's a firmware update for it?

Yes I did - they seem to have firmware updates only up to and including the BD-P1500 so maybe they consider the 1600 to be all caught up in firmware to begin with?  It may have just been the disks - they were both rentals and the one causing the greatest problem had considerable smudge marks/fingerprints on the disc's data surface, so... I'll try a few more and see how things work out.  I don't seem to have any problem playing normal DVDs on the machine, just the Blu-Ray types.

All discs can have problems, with fingerprints. I always clean rental discs before watching them. Use a soft rag, or Kleenex folded over, and rubbing alcohol. Clean, wiping from the center, towards the outside. Don't use a circular motion, like when cleaning a record. It sounds like the fingerprints could have been your problem.................
