SR-507 plus 5 speakers, no sub. Issues with sound

Hey Guys

I just purchased a new onkyo sr507 as my last onkyo had some issues running 5 speakers at the same time. Anyways, I set this one up, plugged it all in, no sub, and i cant seem to get all the 5 speakers working, except on mono, at the same time. I've run the automated process with the microphone and letting the receiver set the sound but then it gets so soft, so soft that I need to manually mess with the configurations to get a higher volume, to which the 5 speakers stop working.

Any idea why it isnt wokring properly? Did I invert the +- cables?

Sigh

Thanks in advance

Let me clarify that I get the Test Tone in all 5 speakers and that have my 2 rearsub speakers in the front and my 2 front speakers in the back...the house is set up like that and I cant change it. I say that the 2 sub are in the front because they are the bigger ones and can carry a much larger bass/tremble than the other 2.
The other reason I got a new receiver is because I have a 2nd zone in the house to which I stream wireless music to. That 2nd set of speakers are the accoustomass 12(5 speakers with a sub). We took the central channel speaker and put in the other room, where we have 5 speakers for the TV and left 4 for the living room with the sub for music. Even if I wanted to set Zone 2 for the living room for music, I cant control the sub...whenever I connect the sub to the receiver, the output is the TV's noise and the music. I cant get only music. (any ideas)

sorry if this post is confusing. I am myself confused.

Thanks

Yes your post is confusing.  Exactly what brand/model speakers & subs/bass modules are you using?  Are the subs powered or not, and are they wired to anything at the moment, and how?

What exactly do you mean by a "rearsub" speaker?

Hey

Alright I took pictures to better explain

This is the left front speaker. Its a bose. I say its not powered because I dont plug it into the wallsocket, only to the amplifier.

I believe this speaker should be in the back of the room because of the heave bass it carries. I also called it a subrear speaker because thats what the amplifier seems to call it, but lets not call it that anymore hahah...sorry :\

This is the right side, with a middle bose speaker http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/9236/middleandright.jpg
I couldnt get a picture with all 3 speakers in it, sorry. But as you can see, its the small center acoustomass speaker in the middle with 2 large, old bose speakers on each side.

In the back of the room are 2 in the wall speakers. They are a local brazilian company. They are again not connected to any sockets, only to the amplifier. There is no subwoofer....Only these 5 speakers in the TV room.

Im having a lot of issues with having good sound come out of all 5 speakers at once. Im also having issues with the sound coming out too low and having to increase the volume on the receiver up to 60 to get good sound..

With my old onkyo receiver, only the front 3 worked, but it was very, very loud nonethless.

As youll be able to see with the next 2 useless pictures haha, I tried following the guide...

This is only have of the issue, but once I get this issue squared away, Ill reconnect zone 2 to the receiver.

Thanks in advance, and I hope this clears it up

All speakers are connected to the receiver as when you run the test tone, you get noise out of all 5.

Another thing, I tried the battery, getting the speaker wires and putting it up against the - and the + of the battery, test to make sure I had both +- not mixed up and I get that speaker sound when I connect the + to the - and the - to the - and the + to the +.

Is that right?

I think ive figured out the issue. Whenever I turn on Zone 2, Zone 1 speakers are reduced from 5 to 2, only the back 2 speakers work, or only 2 in the front.

I get 2 different zones, however in zone 1 only 2 work, whereas in zone 2 all 4 work... I want all 9 working...

sigh

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK, that was clearer.

IMO, what you really ought to do (assuming you are past the return period of all these speakers, and want to get the best sound you can out of them, as opposed to getting a better set)
is:
-use acoustimass system in its entirety (5 cube speakers + bass module) as your home theater setup.  To wire it, you send all wires from the main speaker terminals on the receiver to the bass module.  Then you run wires from the bass module to the individual speakers.  Run the Audyssey auto-setup.
-move the larger bose speakers to the other room and use them as zone 2.

There's no point to having 4 cubes in the other room, as the zone 2 only powers 2 channels anyway.

Anyway, the Audyssey is supposed to detect polarity errors (swapping -/+ on one speaker vs. the others).  If you are insisting on getting your original idea to work, run the auto-setup, and report what Audyssey sets your speaker size & crossovers settings to.

Also, note that this receiver can't fully power both rooms at the same time.  If zone 2 is on, the main room is reduced to just the front 2 speakers.  To get full surround sound, the zone 2 has to be turned off.

If you need to power both 5.1 surround & 2 speakers in another room simultaneously, you need to step up to the 607 receiver.

Damn. I thought the 507 was great...

The 4 speakers set for zone 2 is a large, large area. 10 meters in length by 5. Its a rectangle.....thats why we put the more powerful accoustomass outside and set the older, less powerful in the tv room, as the room is small nonetheless.

Is there anyway to get more bass or power out of my new receiver, with the 5 speakers for the TV room? I have decided because of the 507 hiccup, to set the old receiver for the zone 2 and set the new receiver for zone 1(tv room). The old single receiver gives the bose speakers such a nice kick, it sounds like im in a club and all i need is a disco ball with a light shinning on it. seriously.

returning to the original subject, is there anyway i can give more power to the tv room 5 speakers? I feel like I need to set the receiver to all speakers to get sound out of all of them but cant get a nice bass out of the speakers or nice volume.

Any hints?

If you like deep bass you will need a proper subwoofer.  Better than the Bose!  All your speakers in your room are quite small, the Bose center is considered a "micro-satellite", the older bigger ones are normal bookshelf "small" speakers.  It is basically impossible to get nice bass out of small speaker.  Normally you need minimum large speakers with big drivers (> 200mm diameter) to get good bass.  Many of us use subwoofer with 250+mm, or 300+mm drivers.  Big cabinet also.

If after add subwoofer still don't like sound, replace speakers with bigger, matching set.  Changing receiver setting not likely to help much.  If receiver is shutting down at high volume, make sure you have no short circuit (wire from '-' terminal grazing '+' wire or terminal), but maybe just your speaker not efficient enough.  Also try different "impedence" setting on the receiver if you have it, 4 ohm vs. 6+ ohm.
