Re: M. Night Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender"
My kids were really excited to see this trailer before we watched Transformers. I have watched the cartoon many times with my kids but was shocked to see Shyamalan's name attached with it.I really like Shyamalan's movies but for some reason I do not picture him doing a movie like this one.

It's a good change of pace for him. The man is an amazing director but a very shaky writer.

I won't see this until it hits Blu so I cannot comment on the film itself but why does this film, or any film for that matter, deserve a "raking-over-the-coals"? A film critic opinion holds not more weight then the average Joe's. It's nothing more then one persons opinion. I have always wondered why so many put so much weight into a critics opinion of a film when it is no better then mine or yours.
If you have the same type of taste or views of movies as another critic, you will want to see their opinion on the new big movies coming out, to see if you should spend the money or not.

A good film critic has a knowledge of the cinema that includes its history, the art of storytelling, the basics of film-making, and the business of getting them made. As well, critics have a journalistic background that aids them in conveying their experiences to their audience.
On the flip side, most people are ignorant philistines who would never even begin to contemplate the quality of a movie's direction, editing, pacing, or acting on anything more than the most superficial level.
Some opinions are absolutely better than others.
Exactly what Zach said. There are millions out there right now who would tell you the latest Twilight movie is the greatest film in history. I doubt anyone here is going to take their opinion too highly.
I wasn't interested in this thing until all the bad reviews.

While I see your points and would agree I have yet to find a any critics opinion any better then peoples here, my friends and so on. Most of them (if not all) in the media now are not worth taking the time to read or listen to.
I don't know if the initial trailer is the same as the one that's been running in front of films like Iron Man 2, but I was pretty bored by it. It seemed like endless shots of people doing that waving (bending) motion with their arms. Ugh.

I read the reviews of certain critics because just like when I come here, I want to read someone else's opinion on the movie.
Since I rarely go more then once a year the critics have no influence on me other then me being interested in what they write.
pet peeve on critics is only when one is referred to as if I know who he is without the name or a link to the review.
