Activision says development for PS3 may be no more

Activision brewed major news today, saying they may be dropping support for the PS3 and focusing future titles on Wii/XBOX because of friendlier licensing agreements and more profitability.

If true, this would be a major blow to Sony..

Re: Activision says development for PS3 may be no more

Personally, I don't this will make a big dent in Sony.
Sure Sony is reporting a major profit loss, but they have lots of good titles
they have already produced this year and still many more to come throughout the middle of 2010.
Plus they have handfuls of games already being positive as future franchises.

Plus E3 was very positive for Sony this year.
But, it does suck as Activision does make Prototype
as this would make a great franchise.

But I also think that Prototype was either not advertised enough or correctly.
Plus it coming out at the same time as Infamous really overshadowed it.

What will suffer is any future game lovers of

Guitar Hero
Prototype
Call of Duty.

Not having the Call of Duty franchise will probably make the biggest impact.

Sounds more like a political threat intended to pressure Sony than an actual plan.

Guitar Hero and Call of Duty/Modern Warfare would be huge losses, but I also hope this is just Activision blowing smoke. I own all three consoles, but I would still hate to see the PS3 left in the dust--it's pricy, but still a fantastic piece of hardware.

If the PS3 gets a price cut and starts to sell more units, then it will increase the user base and the potential for profit for third parties. There is supposedly going to be a price cut this fall/winter, so Activision will get what they want anyway. It's not a serious threat, just blowing smoke.

And frankly, I prefer Rock Band to GH any day.

Sony PS3 will disolve.  It's a powerful system and all, but it just doesn't have anything that can compare to Xbox Live or the game selection.  Graphics aren't everything, Wii proved that!

Erik,

Welcome to the forum!  We hope that you enjoy your time here and have much to contribute (especially in gaming).  Please be aware of one thing.  This is a moderated forum which means that we do not tolerate over-enthusiasm when it crosses the line into name calling.  You seem to be very passionate about the Xbox360 (as am I) but let's try to keep the discussion of the other two platforms (PS3 and Wii) to the facts and not start talking in terms that could easily be interpreted as denigrating to the point of petty argument.  Gamers are welcome here.  Please try to keep things on a level keel.  (Fans, not fan-boys.)

For the record I own and use all three systems (as well as a Nintendo DSi and a PSP) and it's no secret that my Xbox360 gets at least 90% or more of my gaming time.  While there are some great games on the PS3 (MGS4, Infamous and the much anticipated God of War III come to mind)  I hardly ever use it in comparison to my 360s.  I much prefer the 360 achievements to the Sony trophies and to me the XBox Live experience is far better than the PS3's on-line interface and experience - but that's just me.  Of course, the PS3 offers kick-a Blu-ray performance and that's my main use of that console.  While the Wii was interesting at the onset, I have to admit that while I have a large number of titles, I haven't actually turned that console on in months and that was mostly for the grandkids.  It can be fun but the promise of Project Natal (which is still not that close on the horizon at this point) will, I believe, make the 360 a serious controller-less product.  However, never count Nintendo out.  They have a habit of coming up with surprises and they certainly can't be sitting on their laurels on this one.

In other words, there is room for all sorts of consoles in this industry and when one combines one of the high rez boxes with a Home Theater you get some absolutely incredible experiences.  I do that all the time (and I'm an Old Dude, a really old dude! My signature might give you a clue.)

Activision claims are now being dismissed by Sony's CEO Sir Howard Stringer.
Basically saying that Activision likes to "make a lot of noise."
Also adding that Sony likes to put pressure on Activision and Activision likes to put pressure on Sony and that it's usual business.
