When you're desperate, bring out the lesbians!



Claire and her roommate activate new "powers" in hopes of activating new viewers.. sadly, this smacks more of desperation then anything else.  It appears everyone here was right, it was bound to happen.

Yep, have to love Clancy.  We re-watched Carnivale today in a marathon on the Bluerays.  Great, great stuff.  Brother Justin is one of the most terrifying characters ever because it's easy to see how he warps people.

But watching it, I realized that Heroes has went the wrong way, and dropped the obvious ball.  They brought it up ONE time, and it never happened again, where someone with powers tried to set themselves up as a messenger from God, and used their powers to influence people.  

That storyline could be compelling and complicated.. do they really believe they have been blessed? Do they view it as a scam that gets them over?  Or are they truly corrupt & evil and using people as pawns..

Heroes has been so surface level since Season 1, that it has never really touched on the consequences of what these people think about themselves and their powers beyond really simplictic, almost mentally challenged viewpoints.  I'm sorry, but Hiro comes across more and more as though he took a hard hit to the head as a kid or something.  I keep imagining a Kids in the Hall sketch where someone gets kicked by a horse..

I thought I was watching a super-powers version of "Veronica Mars" with the Vanessa reveal.  I was wondering how Vanessa kept the note invisible (how do her powers work with inanimate objects, as she was shown to keep some of them invisible or visible, I guess she can inflict invisibility at will). 

Was sort of bored with the Sylar subplot.

We finally find out Filing girl can harness music into force (almost like Cyclop can emit concussive force blasts with his eyebeams).  I was hoping her and Peter were going to play "chopsticks" at the piano.  Nice nod to "The Greatest America Hero" meets "Glee" moment there.

I don't miss Parkman or Hiro or Ando, too bad Hiro had to break the good times at the end.  But Hiro did get Olivia Munn's number.

The look on Claire's face after the kiss was priceless.

She can make her clothes invisible.  An episode of VM would have been better than this.

Wait, are you saying she does, or you're hoping? I kept trying to figure out where I'd seen her before. It didn't come to me.

I was tentatively OK with the Sylar thread. I'd  give the Claire thread a 5 at most. The Peter thread was OK, but I think he'd rather have super speed. His mom's preoccupation with Nathan probably made him feel like Nathan's more important to her, but while there may be some truth in that, this was all about her worrying about Sylar emerging. The visual effect of the music was nice ,but I felt like I was watching it too much.

The Carny is increasingly shown to have some people who do some pretty evil things. Pushing a girl out a window just to manipulate Claire?

The Sylar story wasn't riveting but other than that, I liked this episode. I think having so few characters in the episode helped it because they could focus on a few stories rather than trying to juggle 6 stories in 40 minutes. I do like the idea of Sylar getting involved with the carnival characters.

I'll be the first to say that the way that NBC marketed the Claire kiss was an incredibly desperate attempt at getting ratings. Maybe I'm just jaded but two girls kissing isn't even remotely enough to get me to tune into a TV show. All that being said, I do think that in the context of the episode, the scene did work.

No, she makes her clothes invisible or Claire would have seen an empty dress standing there.  That's common for invisibility on shows, but if she can do it for clothes, she can do it for a note*.


I don't watch the ads, I knew it was going to be her and Gretchen, and I was still hoping I was somehow wrong and it was going to be her and that former cheerleader who almost got skewered.  I know some of you find Gretchen attractive, but she makes my skin crawl.

* - Not really.  It's up to the writers how it's handled, and clothing could be an exception just because it's easier.  Though, since we know the note was hidden, it looks like she can extend it to other inanimate objects.

I can't be the only one who thought of Seinfeld with the kids singing, can I?

The song the kids were singing didn't register till the scene ended and I was like oh crap....."George isn't at home, so leave a message".

Question, does Peter know that Sylar is Nathan?  I thought he did but now I'm not sure.

Re: Todd's major spoiler: I haven't been watching the new season (waiting for the DVDs) but unless the writers have magically managed to split Sylar and Nathan the politician ("flying man") into two people, Nathan is most likely dunzo. I mean they can't fire Spock, can they? He's too popular an actor. But Nathan's been on borrowed time since he died in the previous season.

It could be Mohindar, except they're saying it is a major character, and Mohindar hasn't been a major character since season one.

Will, I don't personally care, but why are you speculating out of spoilers?  The way Todd did it, there's no way to even know the topic of the spoiler.

We used to enjoy this commercial in college.  I didn't know until a couple of days ago that it was Larter.

I think I'm getting old. That commercial looks almost pornographic.

I'm getting old, too, but that's from about 15 years ago.  It was frequently on MTV back in the days of Beavis & Butt-Head and actual music videos.

Claire's story sucks.  Ali looked fantastic.  Knepper elevates things.

Yeah, he does. I'm still way more interested in seeing what he does than the characters that I like (such as HRG or Hiro).

I live in the northeast of the country but even this Yankee had to laugh out loud at the ridiculously over the top Southern redneck cop stereotypes. A deputy participates in dragging a 17 year old boy to his death (was the town lynchin' tree already being used to string up civil rights workers?) and even the media doesn't care? On a show where I have no problem accepting people flying around or have invulnerability, that's absurd. The only thing that would have made it even funnier is some big buck teeth for all the cops.

What a craptastic episode.  Yeesh!

i realized the other day this season is the most like season 1 we've had. Its meandering and taking its time building up to a climax, each little piece being laid out instead of rushing bam bam bam every plot point like season  2 and 3 did. now whether or not the pay off will be worth it remains to be seen.

I'll give you that the time between the kid's murder and the destruction of the police station is brief but since he dissapeared from the police station and was murdered, the police had to know that one of their own was involved (and I guess they were waiting to wash the murder blood away until the media did arrive). Even letting that slide, the dumb southern cop stereotype was so ridiculous that I'm surprised that they didn't say "We don't take kindly t' folks wit' powers 'round these parts!" or [South Park]"Those people wit' powers are gunna take our jobs!"[/South Park]

For what it's worth, I actually didn't mind the rest of the episode.

I'm liking this season more than the last two.  IMHO, I think the show would be in much better shape now if we'd gotten something like this as Season 2 instead of what we did get. 

And as a Southerner, I have to say that the lynching was too over the top even for this show.  That stereotype is decades out of date.  Someone was just taking a cheap shot.  

The writers were definitely referencing the James Byrd murder.  What's decades out of date is police involvement in such reprehensible acts. 

Which is not to say that the police do not sometimes abuse their authority, but such blatant acts are almost unheard of since the end of the '60s.

Yeah, but at the same time they did all watch the kid kill someone just by touching him.  I'm not sure that anybody would react rationally in a situation like that.

I don't know if I'd react rationally, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't tie him up (knowing he could kill me by touching me) and drag him behind my vehicle. Because I'm not an animal. And doing something like that ultimately says far more about the person who did it than the person who was violated. Not to mention he's a sworn officer of the law. You know, a peacekeeper. I was so turned off by what I saw that I half hoped with his dying breath, the boy touched the officer and took him with him. Sure T-Bag basically did the same thing, but he took a lot of "innocent" people with him.

Doesn't bother me.  I watch it almost out of habit now.  I wish NBC had given the fall slot to Chuck instead.  The current season has shown me that I wouldn't mind Knepper finding a new series that I want to watch.  He's been a regular in my home since 2005 now.  Hard to believe.
