Emotional Lifetime Movie Debuts on DVD September 1
Culver City, CA (June 22, 2009) – America, the inspiring Lifetime Original Movie from Sony Pictures Television, based on the novel by E.R Frank, debuts on DVD September 1 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. America is the story of a young boy helped through the emotional roller-coaster of the foster care system by a caring therapist, played by Emmy Winner® Rosie O’Donnell (A League of their Own). The top-rated Lifetime film is directed by Yves Simoneau (TV’s “Burry My Heart at Wounded Knee”) and also stars Academy Award® Nominee Ruby Dee (American Gangster) and newcomer Philip Johnson. O’Donnell re-teamed with Joyce Eliason (“Gracie’s Choice”), whom she worked with on “Riding the Bus with My Sister,” to adapt Frank’s book for the screen. O’Donnell also serves as an executive producer with three-time Emmy®-nominated producer Larry Sanitsky (TV’s “Covert One: The Hades Factor”). David A. Rosemont (TV’s “Gifted Hands”) is a producer. SYNOPSIS
Dr. Maureen Brennan (O’Donnell), a therapist at a youth treatment center, encounters her newest patient, a 16-year-old biracial boy named America (Johnson). Through their sessions, Dr. Brennan helps America deal with his many problems, which started when, as an infant, he was taken by authorities from his crack-addicted mother and placed into foster care. Dr. Brennan works to help him open up about his painful past and discover the support and courage he needs to get his life back on track.
