Speaker Advice for Nonideal Room Layout

Hi all!

I am a HT novice, so I appreciate any advice you could provide.

I am looking to upgrade our TV and speaker system. I have decided on the Panasonic TH65PZ850U 65" Plasma HDTV, and I am looking for help with what speakers to buy, but also, where to place them because the room layout is odd.

17' x 16' room with sectional couch along the top and right walls (#), and the TV in the lower left corner angled accordingly (**)

If the surrounds are to be positioned behind the couch, they will need to be mounted on the wall about 10' above the floor. The other option I was considering was having the surrounds at ear level in the top left and bottom right corners of the room drawing. Thoughts?

I already have a subwoofer and 5.1 receiver that aren't too old, so i'm thinking I can use those. It's a relatively large room, so what speakers should I get? I have about $1000 to spend on them, but I would much rather spend less and get good value. For movies and TV only (no music).

Thanks for all of you help!

Re: Speaker Advice for Nonideal Room Layout

I just saw that Woot has a pair of Klipsch F-1 for $350 and C-1 for $150. Is that a good deal?

And what are the pros and cons of using 4 of the same floor standing speakers for both fronts and surrounds?

And I just noticed my "drawing" in my original post did not turn out as intended.

Rectangle room, 17' wide, 16' long. Sectional couch along 2 adjacent walls will TV in opposite corner.
