Multiple iPhone households - how do you avoid taking each others phones

This morning I left the house with my wife's iPhone by mistake (second time it has happened.) This worries me because right now I have the original silver backed iPhone and she has the white 3G. And I have a white 3G S reserved.

If I can mistake two very different looking phones, what will happen when they are practically identical? I guess some sort of sticker on the back will help, but I don't want one on mine. Yeah I should be getting the black one to preserve household sanity, but I really prefer the classic white Apple look.

We're doomed I tell you, doomed. OK, not really, but you get my point.

Don't keep them together.

My wife and I have identical phones. Hers is in her purse or on her charger. Mine is in the key bowl or on my charger.

If they're sitting next to each other, I check the background picture to know which is which.

Cases/skins and custom background pictures prevent this sort of thing

  • Engrave the backs with "Mine" and "Not Mine"
  • Drop hers; always pick up the one without a cracked screen
  • Call your wife before leaving, if the phone you're holding rings...
  • Never be more than 15 feet from your wife
  • Duplicate all numbers and apps onto your wife's phone
  • Give your wife a Palm Pre
