Speaker Wiring

Reading another post brought up a question, and I didn't want to hijack his post......

I am getting a 5.1 reciever, and had thought I might use the front 2 channels to run 4 speakers. As long as I wire them correctly ( in series ) , and the reciever is rated for 4 ohm loads. Haven't started figuring yet, but I might be able to run them at a 8 ohm load.

Anyway my question is, Is it possible to run 4 speakers off of 2 channels safely.....for both reciever and speakers.

Re: Speaker Wiring

Wiring two 8 ohm speakers in series results in a 16 ohm load, which is generally safe for any receiver, though you will be losing power. Wiring the speakers in parallel will result in a 4 ohm load, which virtually no receiver will be able to handle safely, but it also depends on how loud you want to play them. The real question is, why do you want to do this?

Re: Speaker Wiring

Probably not going to, but one reason was to lower the power. Cut it in half and split it between 2 lower wattage speakers for the fronts.
I just read the post from the guy saying he was runnin 12 speakers off of 6 channels, and made me think about it.

Thanks.
