James Bond Blu-ray Collection Three-Pack, Vol. 4??

Does anyone know if/when Volume 4 will be released? I know they released two titles last month on their own... but what about the boxsets? I'd hate for them to stop at just three volumes.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

James Bond Blu-ray Collection Three-Pack, Vol. 3 (Moonraker/ The World is Not Enough / Goldfinger) [Blu-ray]
James Bond Blu-ray Collection Three-Pack, Vol. 1 (Dr. No / Die Another Day / Live and Let Die) [Blu-ray]
James Bond Blu-ray Collection Three-Pack, Vol.2 (For Your Eyes Only / From Russia with Love / Thunderball) [Blu-ray]

I had heard elsewhere the steelbooks and volume sets were being discontinued due to lack of interest.

Maybe the steelbooks, but I find the volume set claim unlikely, seeing as how all 3 volume sets were in top 20 sales, and none of the individual titles ever were. Could you provide a link to these claims?

Mind you, the conversation has no actual statement or "real" information from anyone involved with MGM/Fox. However, the discussion starts at post 70.

Re: James Bond Blu-ray Collection Three-Pack, Vol. 4??

I much preferred the three box sets that were issued about 10 years ago on DVD, containing the first 19 movies. You could mix and match the films in the boxes in chronological order if you wanted, or group the actors' films together, or whatever. The new BD boxes have no such capability and are sparse in terms of packaging.

Re: James Bond Blu-ray Collection Three-Pack, Vol. 4??

I agree Sam, that woud've been the way to go here, I think.

But Fox hasn't made much sense with their strategy here. I'm thinking we won't see any more Bond films until we get closer to the holidays. Maybe one more set in October and the last two around Xmas?

Who knows.

As long as the entire set gets completed before Bond 23 I don't mind. I know this is wishful thinking but I hope Casino Royale and QoS get included in them too. But that is unlikely I'm sure.

Casino is more than wishful thinking; it's praying for a miracle, since Sony has the home video rights.

Re: James Bond Blu-ray Collection Three-Pack, Vol. 4??

Count me in for more of the Bond films too. When is the next wave?

I have been picking them up individually and not in box set form.

I would not hesitate recommending the films to anyone however. I'm watching Goldfinger as I type this. Great transfers and audio on the films thus far!

Diamonds Are Forever, The Spy Who Loved Me and On Her Majesty's Secret Service would make a great set for volume 4 I think.

In addition to OHMSS, I'm also looking forward to what Goldeneye will look like.

I agree it's unlikely, but I don't know if I'd consider it a "miracle." It's not like there were never any multi-studio box-sets on DVD. The original Kubrick set comes to mind.

Re: James Bond Blu-ray Collection Three-Pack, Vol. 4??

Sony did allow Casino Royale to be included in the DVD box set of all the films a few years back, though perhaps that was more to do with the Eon and/or MGM rather than Sony or Fox.

Even if it is only the 20 Bond movies that end up getting in the collection... all that matters to me is that they finish off the Volume Sets with Volume 7 only having 2 movies.

Re: James Bond Blu-ray Collection Three-Pack, Vol. 4??

Is it possible that there is a delay in the films being announced due to the extras work? I know some of the documentaries have been updated to HD for blu ray release. Perhaps the company doing the work is behind on them or MGM hasn't approved further work on the extras yet?

Just trying to think of some kind of logical reason for a delay...

Probably a pretty weak one?

Well its a logical assumption except they released License to Kill and Man with the Golden Gun already just last month seperately. Who knows which of the remaining 8 movies is causing the delay.

Re: James Bond Blu-ray Collection Three-Pack, Vol. 4??

The Bond titles apparently didn't sell very well. I got attacked the other day by a fanatical BD supporter just for relaying this .......imagine that you'd think the format war was still going on.

Quotes are from TheDigitalbits Jeff Kleist via their own "Insiders thread" over at Blu-Ray.com

Bonds are going to slow down a bit because theyre not selling as well as they'd like.

Quote:
I completely agree that the SRPs on them is too high, that's why you've been seeing so many sales in the $10-15 range. MGM did spend a small fortune restoring the films, and thus far the sales have not justified a reduction in what they're charging.

Quote:
Frankly I think more of the problem is that the younger demo isn't interested in older movies as much, and that combined with the fact that the DVDs are running as low as $4-5 each isn't helping. You're absolutely right that the "old movies can't be HD" myth is alive and well, and the whole industry needs to work better on getting that message across. Having some a/b demos at the start of must-have films will certainly help

The heavy discounts shorty after the first two batches were released late last year was a sure fire sign these weren't selling well enough.

I think we'll be lucky to get another set this year but I'm not holding my breath. Frankly I'm pretty disappointed as the remaining titles include some of my favorites.

Re: James Bond Blu-ray Collection Three-Pack, Vol. 4??

Thanks Jim K. I appreciate the update.

That is very sore news for Bond fans if they are going to slow down releases. Goldeneye possibly not until Bond 23? That sux!

Hopefully MGM reconsiders, or just puts out a complete box set. I already have many of the films on blu ray now, but would buy a complete box if they decide to go this way...

I only have two more films I want (Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies), so I'm fervently hoping against just a boxed set!

Re: James Bond Blu-ray Collection Three-Pack, Vol. 4??

I can believe that people think that the oldest movies wouldnt look good in HD. For almost 40+ movies they do look very good.

Another thing that I think could have helped.... ADVERTISING! I never saw any TV ads! Maybe I was watching the wrong channel or something, lol.

I do hope they complete the set. It would be a disservice to us fans if they didn't.

I have to say, I don't ever recall seeing TV or even significant print advertising for catalog releases--ads for Trek in the official magazines, but that's about it...

Re: James Bond Blu-ray Collection Three-Pack, Vol. 4??

They will certainly complete the set. They invested too much in the remasters not to. Also, I don't know that I believe they have been disappointments as sellers. Weren't Volumes 1 & 2 on the Amazon best seller lists late last year?

Advertising would be a good thing for the sets, especially if you could craft some HD commercials, showing how stunning these old films look in HD. I showed a few minutes of two of the films to a friend who only has the DVDs and he was hooked. Said he was going to go out and get the BDs for him and his son.

Wow ... that is depressing news.

Let's hope MGM pushes on and releases the rest of these titles sooner rather than later.

This was on the news update today at The Digital Bits:

MGM's James Bond Blu-ray Collections: Volumes 1-3 will be re-issued on 9/1 for SRP $69.99 each.

I hope that doesn't mean a redesign of the packaging is happening, I actually like the packaging as it is. Sure I had one of the middle things that hold the disc in place pop off but a little hot glue fixed that.

At least this shows they haven't abandoned the idea and hopefully with a cheaper price more people will grab them... but I actually paid $49.99 CDN each at Future Shop in April for all 3

Yep, I think the 2 volumes were doing pretty good some time ago, so it seems like a good choice to continue the set.

Re: James Bond Blu-ray Collection Three-Pack, Vol. 4??

If they're lowering the retail price of the boxes, does this mean they MIGHT drop the prices of the individuals as well? I've picked up all of these things first day anyway, but I'd love it if they were available for $19.99 moving forward.

Man, here's to hoping we don't have to wait until Bond 23 to get the rest of these.

I was really anxious to get the series completed on BD before Xmas and while there's still hope, things have been awfully quiet on the announcement front lately.

I know I'm in the minority, but I was pumped to get A View to a Kill.
