Collection Features 35 Cartoons on Four Discs

BURBANK, CA (June 10, 2009) – The action-packed adventures of DC Comics’ legendary superhero Plastic Man spring to life on Plastic Man: The Complete Collection, the latest animated DVD release from Warner Home Video (WHV). This full series collection will be available to consumers September 1, 2009 and will retail for $44.98 SRP.

He can spring, stretch, fly, bounce and even change his shape; there is hardly anything that this superhero can’t do! Joined by his girlfriend Penny and his Polynesian sidekick Hula Hula, Plastic Man travels the world, preventing the proliferation of evil. Plastic Man’s adventures are quirky, offbeat and filled with slapstick humor. Classic animation fans and kids alike will love this compilation of one of DC Comics’ most endearing characters.

The Plastic Man Comedy/Adventure Show is based on the DC Comics superhero, which originally appeared in comic books in 1941. The original Plastic Man discovered his powers after he was sprayed with an unidentified substance that entered his bloodstream, causing a radical physical change that allowed his body to acquire all of the properties of rubber. Produced by both Ruby-Spears Productions and Hanna-Barbera Productions, The Plastic Man Comedy Adventure Show first aired in 1979 Saturday mornings on ABC, right after Super Friends.

“Plastic Man is edgy, fresh and unique, definitely one of the most original super heroes ever created,” said Amit Desai, WHV Vice President, Family, Animation and Sports Marketing. He added, “Plastic Man’s unusual powers and abilities, coupled with his great sense of humor have resulted in his becoming one of the most unforgettable characters from the golden age of comics. The episodes featured on this release are loaded with entertaining stories, spectacular action and great animation. We think cartoon lovers and comic book buffs will be really excited about this DVD.”

I'm a bit confused by this. They advertise 35 full cartoons, but also say full episodes. Are they just doing the Plastic-Man cartoons or will Mighty Man, Fang Face and Rickity Rocket also be included as part of the package or not? The press release isn't clear.

Well, it's sort of confusing because of the choice of language by saying "full collection"

From what I understand, the DVD will have only all the Plastic Man episodes
that made up that part of the "comedy adventure show". That would be
the 2 parts from each episode that featured Plas, Penny, & Hula.
(don't forget that each of the two hour blocks featured 1 half hour PM episode,
and 1 shorter 12min PM episode.) The dvd will not be recreating the whole
show, so none of the other cartoons are on this set. I guess they mean "full collection"
because a couple of the 12 min episodes were shown in season 2 as part of the plastic family
show, (a different package) but those are included on this dvd.

I was wondering the same thing. I'll be disappointed if it isn't the full episodes, but I'll probably get it anyways! I wonder why they can't do the other cartoons? I would assume Warners owns all the segments, not just the Plastic Man parts.

Perhaps not. Warner would own the Plastic Man segments because they own the character. The other segments may still belong to whoever holds rights to the Ruby Spears catalog.

I'm pretty sure Warners owns most of the rights to Ruby Spears shows, except for licensed shows.

Ted Turner bought them and Warner got them when they bought Turner's companies.
