Subwoofer Comes Out of Standby With No Input

Hello Everyone.

I have a Denon AVR-487 and for some reason, the subwoofer will come out of standby at random even when there is no input. The receiver is off and out of nowhere we will hear a pop and then it will start to hum. Then, a few minutes later - anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes - it will go back into standby. Everything works flawlessly when the power is on. Anyone have any idea what is going on?

Re: Subwoofer Comes Out of Standby With No Input

I have a guess:

the subwoofer is plugged into a different wall-outlet than the Denon.

I will further go out on a limb and say (the spirits are speaking, wait a moment!) that the two outlets are on different breakers, quite possibly on different feed legs.

Due to spurious currents caused by ground differentials, flowing through the signal wire, the subwoofer is detecting "signal" and powering on.

Well, that's my bet, and I'm confident enough to bet my own money, except I just don't bet.
