A/V video switching help

I have a Pioneer VSX 80TXV a/v receiver, which worked perfectly until one night when my kids used it. Now, if you are watching a DVD input, and swithc to the TV input, the sound switches but the video does not. I have tried resetting to factory defaults, reassigning the output jacks, etc. but it does not change.

Is it possible for the video switching to fail in this way internally? Or am I missing some setup option. It is very coincidental that it would have burned out while the kids were in there, but anything is possilbe.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.

I doubt the switching is screwed up and it almost has to be a cable issue or software setup problem, but I'm not sure which setting would control this.

Is it possible they would have knocked the Video Out cable off and plugged it into the wrong Monitor Out? Are you connected with component, HDMI, analog or more than one of the above? Check all the video input/outputs to make sure they are seated properly. There is a signal switching button I see on the front panel (Dig/Analog/Auto)-- does this help to change those options?

If you disconnect the video out of the DVD player do you get a black screen with TV audio or does it switch to the TV video?

Thanks for the reply. I can get to the Pioneer setup menu on my screen, so I know the monitor out cables are working correctly. I am hooked up with all component cables, from the sources to the receiver, and from the receiver to the projector. I can hook the cable to the projector directly into either of the sources, and the picture is fine.

The switch on the front makes no change, so I have it set to Auto. I am considering hooking from my sources to the receiver with HDMI cables, to see if that makes it works (jsut haven't done it yet cause I didn't want to buy the cables!).

Disconnecting the DVD player does not change anything. FRUSTRATED!!!

Maybe it's the remote?
My stuff acted up once, and it turned out to be my remote needed new batteries. The batteries still had power enough to do some simpler stuff, but not everything. Try new batteries. May not be the problem, but worth a try.

Well there are some advantages to the HDMI cables though from what I can find the 80TX lacks the ability to upscale or handle audio over HDMI so it decreases the cable simplication.

If you are going to buy cables, don't buy the hype on the expensive cables assuming your cable runs are all pretty short (less than 10 feet). Check the basic monoprice or bluejeanscable web sites you can get a lot of very good cables for the price of a single Expensive cable that isn't likely to work any better.

I'm not sure where to go next. If you are out of other options, I might suggest unplugging all the video cables from the receiver, unplugging the unit overnight, plug the unit back it and doing a factory reset, and starting from scratch.

If you haven't checked some of the other online forums like avsforum.com you might want to ask there since they have a more active "Receiver" section than HTF in general. Does Pioneer have a 1-800 number for technical issues -- rarely yields help, but every once in a while you get a simple answer from corporate.

Thanks for the replies. I have changed the remote batteries, but it appears to work correctly.

I considered using HDMI cables just to see if I could isolate the problem (I am not a fan of the handshake problems with HDMI, so I prefer not to use them). I am a monocable fan, would never buy a Monster Cable, etc.

I will try unplugging and turning everything off overnight, that's a great suggestion. If memory serves correctly, I used the factory defaults on initial setup, and everything worked, so maybe.......

Thanks also for the AVSForums suggestion, I posted there and will see what those geeks recommend!
