6Ave lets you set a price alert

I had read about 6 Ave having promotions in the past where you can "set your own price" as with Priceline. I looked & they don't have this now.

They do have a price alert. "Notify me when the price of item X drops to $xyz."

They list the Pioneer SC 05 at full 1799.99 list price & In store only availability.
Since they are authorized Internet retailer for every product they cary which means NEW (not refurbished) & Manufacturer's Warranty for all products (not the b.s. 3rd party warranty that you may get with grey market goods) _ I tried it .

I set a $750.00 price alert.

Next day I get an email offering to sell it to me for $750.00 with free S&H!!
I just ordered it.
They have the BBB reliability logo which is good.

Holy cow that is great!

Just looked at that receiver. My God! If I needed one I would
have ordered it at that price.

Re: 6Ave lets you set a price alert

The only thing is that Pioneer is picky about warranty coverage on online sales of their Elite branded gear (they supposedly only warranty purchase at retail stores), so they may put up a fight if you need warranty repairs in the future.

I've been tempted to make an offer as well (I've heard that they've accepted $725 on the SC-05).

I just want a pre-pro (4" in height) since I'm okay with a separate 5-channel amp, and the SC-05 is a kind of a tall piece of gear (almost 8" in height).

Re: 6Ave lets you set a price alert

Patrick, I had also read that in some forum so I double checked. Here is the exact copy/pasted verbiage from Pioneer web site. You see they themselves list the authorized online dealers. They have a separate list for AUTHORIZED Internet dealers and AUTHORIZED B&M dealers. And they provide links to their web sites. Yes, some have B&M stores but Amazon certainly does not.

"Unauthorized Internet Dealers
Pioneer does NOT offer a manufacturer's limited warranty for products purchased from anyone who is not an authorized dealer and it does NOT offer rebates or other special opportunities for products purchased from anyone who is not an authorized dealer. Pioneer is not able to identify all persons and companies who claim to be authorized Pioneer dealers. Pioneer has been able to identify the following persons and companies who are NOT authorized Pioneer dealers:
1.Valley TV (California)
2.New World Electronics (California)
eBay Sellers
Pioneer does NOT authorize any of its dealers to sell new products on eBay. Pioneer's agreements with its dealers prohibit sales on eBay. Accordingly, Pioneer does not offer its limited manufacturer's warranty or rebates for products purchased from any dealers on eBay."

Re: 6Ave lets you set a price alert

Oh, what the hell, just put in an offer just to see what their response will be. I kind of went lower on the bid. I figure if they reject it, I'll go a little higher.

Thanks for the Authorized Online Stores info, saw it on the Pioneer website, so that does help with the warranty situation.

I still need to see if the depth (18") will be a problem for my particular rack situation.

Re: 6Ave lets you set a price alert

Wow, they are quick, they accepted my offer of Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
$705, which is just a little above the 61% discount price that is that breaking point for this model for the low low price of $702, and comes with free UPS ground shipping too.
. (I'm just spoilerizing for fun).

I'm going to sleep on the decision since the accepted price is good for 7 days (or until supplies last, I suppose).

Re: 6Ave lets you set a price alert

Well, it does look like it's the Elite line that Pioneer has an issue with online purchases (vs. a retail store purchase) regardless of being an authorized online dealer for Pioneer, so I guess there's always that bit of cloudiness for possible warranty claims. But still quite a bargain, and there is Mack warranty coverage available if desired.

Name your price IS active right now...

Re: 6Ave lets you set a price alert

I'm sure "Name Your Price" was not on the main page when I looked for it before I put in the price alert request!.. Maybe I missed it & it was just lucky?

But, I never filled out any Name your price form. I just filled out the price alert form on the SC 05 page. My email address & the price I wanted. In any event I will always check 6Ave for any future purchases along with a few other favorite merchants. I will also always put in a low ball price alert for 6AVe just to see what happens. Maybe they will treat a price alert request as a name your price request? Couldn't hurt as you are not obligated to purchase at that price. I wish I could do that for BDs!

Re Warranty or lack thereof, regardless of what a Pioneer telephone rep SAID -- the Official statement on the Web page is clear. (I have had different people that work for a company tell me completely opposite things on many occasions).

Official Pioneer statement says: Buy on eBay & No warranty. Buy from an Unauthorized dealer (online or B&M) No warranty. Buy from any authorized dealer--warranty.

Just to be safer, I will actually register my AVR (But won't fill out the intrusive survey questions. Or fill out the price I paid.) As many know, these forms are not needed for most warranties but are a way for manufacturers to "capture" information for marketing purposes. But, if I register & later have a warranty claim, they will have me & my serial number in their database. Being as 6Ave is a B&M store, I'm not sure they can tell whether I bought by phone, walked in while travelling or bought online. (If you just do a search on 6ave for the sc 05--it says retail only)
This has been an interesting discussion & we'd all be well advised to be careful when making purchases of expensive gear.

Re: 6Ave lets you set a price alert

The page was up earlier today but down now.

Just for the heck of it I was going to lowball on a price for
an ultra-expensive Altec Lansing iPod dock.

Let's see if the page goes back up or not.

Oh what the heck, I ordered it anyway, warranty or not.

Congrats. It is a great receiver. I love the sound of the amp and the calibration really helped in my room. It is pretty big though. I've been using a makeshift stand for my gear for a while, but the SC-05 won't fit. I guess I'll have to finally build the new entertainment center I've been promising the wife.

As far as the warranty, chances are that you won't need it and if you do I lean toward the side that they'll honor it, but the situation is clear as mud.

Re: 6Ave lets you set a price alert

Well, it helped that I was able to squeeze an extra $400 from my insurance company with some of the stuff I ended up replacing from my break-in, so I'm out of pocket only $305 for the receiver (in my mind, making up rationalization math that justified the expense).

Re: 6Ave lets you set a price alert

Well, I put a price of $700 for one in. I will let you know if they accept it or not. Amazon has this receiver for a little over $900 so Pioneer must really be trying to sell them off.

Hell of a deal at any rate on a great receiver.

Re: 6Ave lets you set a price alert

About a month ago, 6ave had this same "name your price" deal and I got an 07 (the 05's big brother) for $850 shipped. I also had questions about a warranty claim being honored at the time so I called Pio's warranty center and spoke to a rep and he confirmed that my online order from 6ave would be fine for warranty purposes. Do I have it in writing? No. But I feel fairly confident that either a. I won't have to use the warranty or b. If I do, I won't have any problems with the coverage.

Re: 6Ave lets you set a price alert

They emailed me this morning let me know they accepted the price of $700 for the SC-05.

Thanks everyone on the heads up about this. I look forward to putting this puppy into my set up. I have been without a receiver or pre/pro for about 8 months now.

Re: 6Ave lets you set a price alert

Hmmm...$700 for an 05 and $850 for an 07. Wonder what they'ed take for an 09? $1995? Can't blame a guy for dreaming.

Put down $349 for a Denon 1909. The 789 was $399 at Fry's last month. Let's see what happens.

Even if it's not in writing it should be good to use when needed.

Has anybody ordered the SC-05 ?
If so have you received it yet.

Re: 6Ave lets you set a price alert

Hey guys!

I ordered my SC-05 from them about two months ago (During the last "set your price" promo) for $699 shipped.

I can only say that this is a LOT of receiver for the money. Build quality, peformance, and everything on it is top notch. I was especially surprised with the two-channel stereo performance for both film and music. It replaced a NAD T762 in my rig. Interestingly, I went into a local Magnolia/Best Buy store before I bought my model at 6ave, and Magnolia would not budge on the $1799 msrp. Ridiculous isn't it? This when even at the time, other authorized dealers had them listed in the $1,000-$1,500 range.

I do wonder how outfits like Magnolia manage to stay in business.

Re: 6Ave lets you set a price alert

I received mine Tuesday. Arrived in perfect condition. New, sealed box, protective bags, LCD protectors still on the remote & protective tape on the receiver. I was able to easily peel off the front labels. As you know it is LARGE! I had planned & did cut the back out of my shelf to gain an extra 2" depth. It does get warm but so did my VSX D912. The SC 05 has a fan on the left side.
I replaced a Pioneer VSX D912 with no HDMI. I was very impressed with the MCACC setup, very much more detailed than my old AVR. I did need to change the Front speakers to small so I could have the Sub on for stereo too. I set the Xover at 80 -- Was forced to use 100Hz with my old AVR. 80 is much better since my Fronts can go to 70 according to the specs. I am quite impressed with the sound quality. I wasn't sure I would be able to tell the difference. THere is much more dynamic range & that surprised me. I didn't realize that was a possibility. From very quiet dialog or background sounds to thunderous explosions. I am also hearing stuff I don't THINK I heard before in the same movies. Ambient noises. One thing is I need to turn the volume higher than I expected. On my old AVR which went to 0 as loudest setting, I watched TV at -25 & movies at -15. For CDs in a CD player -30 or -35. With the SC-05 I need to go to -10 for TV & movies (DVD or BD) & -15 for CDs. I haver gone as loud as -7.5 for TV or movies. (It also goes by ½ dB increments.) It does go to +12 but, -7.5 is as loud as I have needed. My test was Incredible Hulk BD which had caused my old AVR to overload/shut down. No problems with this beast!
I don’t know if this is due to class D or ICE or the +12 scale but, I absolutely do not believe you can take two AVRS & set both to the same dB & claim they are equally loud as a sales person at Ultimate Electronics told me when I compared two AVRs. I’m going to play around with the stereo options more later. After the 1st day of use I reprogrammed my Harmony 890 remote so it works very easily now. I didn’t like scrolling through so many input choices to find the correct one for BD, TV, etc.

I love having the display tell me exactly what the audio is so changing TV stations I know which are stereo & which are Dolby 5.1. Also, I have noticed some DVDs & BDs have the default Audio less than the “best” I can see immediately what is selected w/o having to go into the BD menu if say, I want DTS vs, DD.

I do not like the fact that unlike my old Pioneer AVR, it will not remember speaker settings (A+B) for a specific input. I called Tech support & they said it does not. On my old AVR I had CD input always use A+B speakers & everything else just “A” speakers. Later I will see if I can make the Harmony remote force this since I got the speaker settings code from Pioneer. (I can program virtually any button press either as I turn on or turn off a device. Including volume)

Also you can have 5.1 & SPeaker B or 7.1 & no speaker B which stunned me. My much cheaper VSX D912 had 7.1 + speaker B terminals. I have no plans for 7.1 but for $1800.00 MSRP this is surprising. Have no use for zones but it has zone 2 & zone 3 as well. I guess you cannot wire speakers for Zone 2 or 3?? I thought different zones were so the same AVR can power completely different set ups in different rooms so they can play different things; movie in main room, TV in bed room & music in other BR? I didn’t even read that section of the manual.

I hadn’t planned on writing a review so I will post as such in the audio equipment thread as well.
